Hello! I am trying to troubleshoot an issue I am having that started last night. I can chat just fine in party chat, but I can not hear/talk to anyone in game chat. I didn’t make any settings changes, but last night I stopped being able to communicate with anyone outside of my party. I tried adjusting privacy settings, and switching chat settings from party to game and vice-versa. Does anyone have any idea why this might be happening? Thanks
you probably have been chat banned do to players muting you, either you were a -Yoink- or they just muted you for no reason and it banned you thinking you were annoying.
Check if you are flagged for a mic ban next time you log in to Halo. Party chat will still work but game chat will be disabled.
Thanks for the replies guys! Where do I check if I am banned? I don’t talk smack in matchmaking at all, so I guess I would be a bit surprised if that happened.
It pops up when you start the game on a blue message on the left side of the screen. I was mic banned too, and I’m almost never on the mic, it’s an automated ban. I think some people use the auto ban system to grief on other players, I’m guessing it has a relatively low mute count attached to it. Hopefully that will get looked at in an update.
Hmm, ok. I never saw a message, and I just tried restarting my game (and clearing my HD cache) but still no chatting. I really appreciate the tips though guys, thank you!
Well, it’s either the NAT settings on your internet router or a mic ban. I just figured a mic ban was more likely since they were getting handed out like candy durring the game release. Good luck gettting that straightened out. Ctrl-Alt-Delete always works, on the computer at least : )
Hmm, good to know. I just talked to Xbox support, and they were not able to figure it out. My NAT settings are open. I tested my Xbox live connection and everything ise green. But, I didn’t receive any notification about a chat ban. Is there any way to verify that I am banned? I am going to call my brother and see if he will let me use his account to test. Just tried logging in on my brothers account and it works fine. So, I guess I did get banned =(
I wish I knew why as I make a conscious effort not to be rude/offensive on live chat. Oh well, wonder how long it’s going to last…?
Probably a mute ban or a technical failure from your mic.
It’s not much of a loss IMO. Hardly anyone talks online that is friendly and understands how to be mature.
You don’t have to be rude to get a ban. If enough people mute you, then the system believes you are abusing mic privileges and bam! You’re mute banned.
Agreed that no one uses a mic, but I play a lot of competitive customs where everyone calls out. Also, my girlfriend is out of town for the weekend, so I was planning a massive gaming binge =(
It’s all good though, I am glad I know what is going on now…talk about first world problems right?
Ah hardcore custom games. I see it now. It would be imperative to have a mic to callout but it’s strange the mute ban extends that far ;/

Bump, still not sure what is going on. Xbox live support told me to contact 343 and this is the only way I know how. I would love to have some help on this issue. Thanks!
Same thing happened to me 2 days ago and I still have no mic. I only use the mic to make calls about where and who has what weapons.
Well, that’s somewhat good to know. At least I am not the only one…I really hope this gets figured out soon =/

Setup a new account, so the problem is definitely account based. When I was in a part chat, the guys in my party said that my voice icon wasn’t showing up - even though we could hear each other.
