Game breaking issues

First of all I like what’s been done with the game, but there are two things that ruins my experience completely.

  1. The framerate. It’s bad. Even in one of the first missions (requiem) where you encounter the covenant for the first time it drops to what feels like single digits. Because of this it’s impossible to aim since the sight jumps god knows where even if you just move the stick a tiny bit. And there isn’t even anything heavy going on.

  2. The auto-aim. It’s the most horrendous use of auto-aim I’ve ever seen. The sight snaps to enemies as if they were rectangles as big as a 1/6 of the screen no matter the distance. Please do not try to tell med that you can’t aim without auto-aim if you’re using a controller. I ALWAYS turn this off if I have the option because in my case it only disturbs my aim. You who’d say something like this might not be able to aim properly with analogue sticks, but I sure as hell can! Happen to have excellent coordination in my thumbs. Think about it. You’re firing against an important target at maybe the left side of the screen. The same target perhaps moves behind a group of smaller enemies which aren’t that big of a threat and that comes up from the right. And if the same enemy you were firing at in the beginning moves up to the right side of the screen you’ll have to sit and watch your sight snap to every single enemy in between before you get to your target. Something that takes forever. Not to mention that it ruins my fine aim.

This together with the bad framerate which occurs far too often makes it unbearable. It literally takes away all the fun. Don’t know about you, but I’ve always associated Halo with a stable and smooth framerate as a whole.

Dear 343i.
Please. At least give me the option to turn off the auto-aim. If other players would still have it enabled in multiplayer wouldn’t bother me. Or if that is too big of a problem in terms of balance create a new filter of some kind. A filter that automatically turns it off for all players who join the game.

I honestly stopped playing because of this and I haven’t even finished the campaign because of the disappointment.

  1. I had maybe a 2 second massive framerate drop on Reclaimer, but other than that…

  2. You can actually turn off auto aim using the Xbox Guide and selecting one of the options (can’t recall which).

i wouldn’t really call these game breaking.

The auto aim has never really annoyed me but i would be fine with an option.

I didn’t really experience any frame-rate drop in the campaign, did you install yours to your hardrive.

I have lots of fun on halo

auto aim in MP is also going to be reduced in the weapon tuning update

> auto aim in MP is also going to be reduced in the weapon tuning update

This isn’t true. The only weapon getting an aim assist reduction is the Beam Rifle.

If I can turn it off via the xbox guide I’d be more than pleased.
Thanks for the tip!

Honestly though. If the framerate is so low that the sight jumps more than lets say five frames each time the picture is updated that breaks the game. It’s a first person shooter. If you have to account for several skipping frames all the time then the game is not working as intended. I short. It breaks the game.
I’ve tried having it installed and not installed. Both discs or just the one. (event though disc 2 only or mostly have content used in multiplayer on it.)

Requiem mission. Seriously. As soon as you get to the open area where you encounter the covenants for the first time. Stand on the first hill and look at the other end of that area. Move the camera around and tell me that it’s not a slide show. Zoomed in or not.

EDIT:
I am using the premium unit that came with a 60GB hard drive and an HDMI-output.
Does it perhaps perform better on newer systems? I.E. the slim unit?
No other games behave like this btw.

That doesn’t work, it is just a rumour.

Well i use the slim unit so that could be why i have no frame-rate probablems

Yeah as explained by the xbox guide this is only used for setting game defaults based on what you as a player prefer. If the GAME supports turning this feature off it will be off by default. Otherwise no.

> 2. You can actually turn off auto aim using the Xbox Guide and selecting one of the options (can’t recall which).

No. This does not turn off Halo 4 aim assist, which is entirely in-game code. This only turns off aim assist for certain games that use this particular Xbox feature. Halo is not one of those games.

> This isn’t true. The only weapon getting an aim assist reduction is the Beam Rifle.

All of the automatics will also have an aim assist reduction (50% reduction, to be precise).

Derp, completely forgot about that :frowning:

Thanks  Just wanted to clarify to the guy that not all guns were receiving a reduction in aim assit.

No problem. BTW, the aim assist in H4 is probably comparable to past titles. The reason aiming feels different in H4 is likely to be the combination of hitscan with previous levels of magnetism / aim assist: Movement / Magnetism

Just to get it confirmed. Anyone with a slim willing to try the level I mentioned in particular before regarding performance issues?

From starting point Alpha on Requiem. Look around on foot as soon as you see the phantoms flying around dropping ground units. Zoomed in and zoomed out.
If it indeed is related to which type of 360 unit you have then I’d be more than angry (I’d also be getting a Slim.)

I don’t have a slim and I have no framerate issues except sometimes solo in MP on Forge maps, and always splitscreen in MP on Forge maps and Complex. But never in campaign (including the covenant drop in Requiem).

Framerate issues are abound in Halo 4, but my BIGGEST issue with the campaign is the fact that all those awesome cutscenes have their sound coming out of a pair of tin cans. I’d imagine there were supposed to be some moments where I was supposed to be in awe or stunned, but I couldn’t get over the fact that the music and sound effects were being played out of an iPod speaker.

Seriously, playing on a good sound setup is actually a killer on the ears for me. I like it to be clear and (Personal preference) loud. Trying to do so in Halo 4 campaign is a chore for my ear drums.
