So now that there’s been huge layoffs at 343, does anyone think MCC will get canned when it comes to updates? It’s the better game in my opinion compared to 5 and Infinite so I could see it staying for a long while if they decide to continue with updates.
Nobody knows the future of MCC - it doesn’t sound like 343 had/has a plan in place.
The layoffs have hit only the infinite team so far, so MCC seems in a safe place
Also there are rumors that 343 will oversee other studios making halo games going forward, whoever gets to do this will hopefully continue the great work put into MCC
You cant layoff zero people.
While this is a bit of a joke, of course I want the game to continue trudging forward. Fingers crossed we don’t go backwards.
You cant layoff zero people.
yeah, but the people who have been laid off at 343 so far are from the infinite campaign team as far as i’ve seen in reports
That’s true . Hopefully we get more stuff in the future.
I think MCC will still have support but as far as updates we probably won’t see much more of those. Maybe a few cosmetics here and there but that will probably be about it, sadly. Also yes MCC is far superior to Infinite and even H5 but sadly they took way to long to get MCC where it should be and sadly players just aren’t coming back to it. I see all the complaints of Infinite which are non issue in MCC.
some audio problems seem to be windows 11 related
Honestly if 343 could fix the crashing issues and completely remove quit bans from social playlists in MCC the game would see a massive rise in players, at least compared to what it has right now. Most people are leaving MCC these days because the game just keeps crashing out on them and then they get an unfair ban then go play something else,.
I just want 343 to clean up MCC before they leave it. At least remove the annoyances like crashing and social quit bans before cutting support.
their are a few plans they had in motion already with MCC, although those plans are little more than a few minor updates surrounding the Mod Tools and Digsite, as well as whatever content they still had ready to go that’s yet to be released.
They could probably choose to finish all of the cut Halo 4 maps for H2A as a paid map-pack to entice Microsoft to keep up support for longer, though it might do more harm than good judging by some responses to the idea i’ve seen.
In the end, their best option is one they probably shouldn’t have wasted; that being selling Halo Online as an additional multiplayer, rather than merging it into Halo 3. Just selling Halo Online’s multiplayer would have presented a wiser course forward for the rest of the collection, as its multiplayer content would have been less controversial on its own. they could have also used it as an additional source of revenue by requiring it be bought as a DLC like Reach and ODST (the best option), or even simply using it as the sacrifice for microtransactions, since that was planned for it when it was supposed to launced. (Contentious and just barely justifiable, but at least logical)
I will be shocked if we even get all of the Halo Online maps at this point.
I don’t see MCC getting future support past 2024, tops. Maybe sooner. And it will be completely out of left field like all Halo news has been recently. One quick Twitter post or something.
343 Industries: “We would like to thank all of the fans for supporting MCC these past ten years. It’s been one heck of a journey…”

Which is why I wish the MCC devs would make Quality of Life improvements the priority in the short term.
Try turning off the H3 skins. I can’t even remember the last time my console crashes since turning them off. Also quit bans should be in social as well just because there is no rank involved doesn’t mean you aren’t ruining the game for others. Players who like to quit should play FFA, where if remember correctly you can quit as much as you like without penalty, and players like me who love FFA don’t mind the quitters as FFA should be six players and not eight so when a player or two quit it makes the game better.
Social never needed quit bans. All quit bans do in social is turn people away from the game. You forget uncontrolled disconnects happen frequently even to players in the US. If there’s no ranks in social there shouldn’t be bans. Halos CE, 2, 3, and even Reach did not have quit bans, well Reach didn’t until 343 took over.
My point being is quit bans in social do more harm to the population than good.
I dont love FFAs being 6 - I think 8 feels very natural.
There are particular gametypes where 6 feels better (particularly the objective gametypes) but slayer feels perfect on 8.
We could go back to H3 launch when it was 5…
Well they have the rejoin feature which I think means if you truly disconnected you can rejoin and not get a ban. But I bet most are just quitting when something they don’t like happens. Because it seems to me most of the people who “disconnect” are on the team that is losing.
Again it’s social, people should be ALLOWED to quit. If losing one person ruins the game for you, then you’re clearly not meant to be playing social, go to competitive if you don’t want quitters.
The same could be said for quitters. If you want to quit without penalty go play FFA. Don’t be on a team if you are just going to quit.
Honestly while Social should still have a quitting penalty, that penalty shouldn’t be as aggressive as a competitive penalty, nor should it affect PvE modes like Firefight.
Y’know what fair. Social quit penalty if it has to be there, 5 minutes MAX. No more, no less.
There is an inbetween. 343 can punish people who abuse the quitting system.
In social:
Quit once every now and then? Enjoy your next game!
Quit once every day for a week? Introduce some form of temporary ban.
Quit once every day for an extended period of time? Increase ban lengths.
This is a very rough model, but disconnects / quits happen. Stop banning every single instance and use some brainpower 343. You collect so much data, why not use it?
