After infinite, I think we should have a game based around Johnson like during in his time in the Spartan 1 program and the battles he fought before The Master Chief. This is something that halo fans are asking and I completely agree ,that we have the chance to play Johnson himself and experience what he’s been through and how he became the sergeant that everyone knows so well
I guess it would be pretty cool to have a contact harvest game or something, but I’d rather see a lot more things explored within the Halo universe first.
A game based around Contact Harvest could work, but I would prefer to play as a new character rather than SGT. Johnson.
I like the idea of having a game about Johnson, but I hesitate to say I want a game that takes place before the Covenant. While a UNSC v Innie game sounds cool, it would be hard to make it feel any different than a typical COD shooter. Human v alien is what makes Halo so fun to play. Super soldiers v overpowered aliens to be specific. ODST is the exception to the super soldier part of that face off, but you still have the overpowered aliens and a great story to make it interesting.
So a Johnson game taking place during the Harvest invasion makes more sense to me.
I’d definitely be intrigued by a “Halo: Harvest” game made roughly in the vein of Reach for aesthetic and tone. Having Avery Johnson as the player character seems like a waste, though- in many respects, it’d keep him from being portrayed the way we all know and love him to be. I’d absolutely love to see him back in some form, but if they did make a game about his earlier career, I would have to say I’d prefer it center on some new Noble-6 “Rookie” type character; a serviceable but mostly blank template that makes all the strong personalities around them shine. Have Johnson be one of those characters.
Of course, I doubt very highly any game like this is in 343i’s plans for the future of the series. A prior response expresses doubt that a Halo game set prior to the Firs t Contact with the Covenant is a strong possibility. I’d take that a step farther and say that 343i has little to no interest at all in making a Halo game without Spartans in it- even if Bungie pulled it off pretty darn well with ODST.
