If there is going to be a rank reset in the future, how about making the highest rank after 10 placement matches a platinum 5?
Currently it is diamond 5, but this is supposed to avoid matching the higher tier with the lower tier, which may be a little confusing at first if you lower it by one tier, but I think this will settle down after a few days.
Looking at the current TRN leaderboard, the number of onyxes is still prominent, and I think lowering the tier would make the rank distribution more natural.
Hopefully not a S1 type reset. That was brutal. 
And of course there will be the seasonal placements going forward.

It’s to give those players a few more games to sort out their rank a bit better. They don’t get the same range of placement games (balance of games harder and easier) and it’s harder for the system to place them.
So they get an even more conservative starting CSR.
It’s not about avoiding matching. That’s still on the player’s MMR.
And for most it’s just a minor delay. Solid Onyx players report only needing 10 or so games to get their CSR back around to where they should be!
If you mean actually limiting the MMR ceiling - I’m not sure that would work. It kind of goes against how the system works.
That’s not a great way to picture the population. Sites such as those are much more likely to be used by the top end of town.
Hopefully 343 will do another ranking FAQ at some stage, including a big picture look at the skill distributions (which should be a normal curve with each division representing one standard deviation from the mean).
