Future of Halo

Hey 343,
I’d like to share this video with you made by the youtube channel LateNightGaming. I watched this video twice and all of his other videos relating to Halo and I hope I can speak for the rest of the older Halo community that this is what we hope the future of Halo will be. Please 343, make Halo the way we remember it. We criticize because we care.
Thanks

No I don’t have a twitter account.

Very interesting. But a lot of the things he talks about we have now with The Master Chief collection, of course I’m strictly speaking of the campaign which is what that video focused on. Even in Halo 4 and 5 the campaign’s were done well if we are talking enviornments and a decent story. Of course the biggest thing they missed with both is the lack of theater mode for the campaign, that one point I fully agree with. Also Halo 5 had no par times, par scoring or campaign commendations so they did miss the mark in some areas.

Just be careful though when trying to compare games while clearly wearing “nostalgia glasses.” It can have you praising something that has the same flaws of the things your comparing them to. For me when the Halo 1 anniversary game dropped and I played with the classic graphics I questioned the authenticity of them at the time. It wasn’t until I booted up the original xbox and the original Halo that I realized that yes the original graphics were that bad! In my mind though I remembered them as being more like the updated version, but that is what the nostalgia glasses will do to ya!

Don’t get me wrong. I really enjoyed Halo 4 & 5 and in no way were H1-3 perfect games but I think what made halo halo for everyone was the right art style and the simplicity of the game mechanics. To be honest I don’t really like the art style they used for Halo 5. Everything looks too cartoony and fake. I hope they use a little more realism in their textures next time around. As for mechanics, well I’m not sure. so many people are saying “go back to old, get rid of sprint.” while others are saying “Halo needs to change to keep up with other games.” I sort of agree and sympathize with both which makes it very difficult to say whose right in this case. All I know is that now that 343 has the new power of the project scorpio backing them for a 2018 release they should hold nothing back. Try to appease to as much of the community as possible.

The first time I watched this video a few months ago I came away feeling like I’d been emotionally blackmailed. Why am I bad person because I don’t share LNG’s desire for playable elites and campaign theater mode? Could it be because the person who does desire those things was bullied in school? Yeah, could be. But that’s not a very good reason to want features in a video game. As a CE vet I share his passion for Halo, but I don’t want to be made to feel guilty if I express my passion differently. So sorry, LNG, but I really can’t fault 343 if they feel like the story they’re telling doesn’t require the game to offer us the ability to play as Sangheili, and I’m also sorry if there isn’t a plurality of players who want to build forge maps and then make videos of themselves building forge maps. Loving Halo doesn’t have to result in nostalgia-blindness or impassioned pleas for a return to the good old days. I’m glad Halo got him through the rough patches, but that’s no reason to assume that all Halo 3 features were either necessary or perfect. Many were neither.
