Future of Cortana

In Halo: 5, they made Cortana the bad guy. I strongly disagree with this decision because she has always been a friend. Yes, she had her weird rampant thing, but why would you make Cortana a crazy evil loonatic? For me, that kind ruined the story. So in Halo 6, will they “kill” off Cortana? Comment your opinions below.

She will end up seeing reason but Master Chief won’t be able to save her this time.

I would have preferred if they kept Cortana dead, it kinda cheapens the ending of H4. As for her future in H6 who knows, maybe she might “die” only to comeback again.

She’ll sacrifice herself to save everybody.

My problem is for an a.i, she seems to completely fail at logic. You could argue that she is something else changed by the domain and forunner tech but it doesn’t explain why other a.i would blindly follow her, again ignoring all logic. Again you could argue that they have been overcome by superior tech and rewritten, but i don’t know how much that human brain their based off factors in. But that’s making assumptions and trying to piece together 343’s writing and plot. Fools errand.

Hopefully it is at least someway expanded in future EU, but if not they better explain it in the game, which they probally won’t. I highly doubt that it’s going to be a worthwhile plot or well written, but we’ll see.

this is my own thinking about this.

So yeah cortana has become an antagonist for sure, yeah. and she is tyring to police the entire galaxy. So in this way then it will for sure be seen as evil. But what is she trying to do? shes trying to bring peace and stop all the fighting! its just the way that she is going about it is totally messed up, and i do feel that her judgment got a little messed up due to her rapancy having overridden some of her thought processes. and those messed up process cycles got ‘fixed’ in that they became stable in their rampant state. so her rampancy IS fixed but it stabalized her rampant form therefore she isnt fully righ tin the mind. similar to a human being. and before you say shes an ai, not a human, she IS made FROM a human brain, and the only one we know of. she even said getting back to Halsey MAY cure her rampancy, not possible with a traditional ai. so yeah she basically has ‘brain damage’

I will say halo 5 is a little out there, and the weaker of the game but its one of my favorite because of how FUN it is to play. but for story wise this is a perfect MIDDLE story i would say. setting up the 6th. i would like maybe a odst styled game where it shows what the heck cheif was up to between the comic and up to halo 5, while adding in some cheif levels. maybe make it a test run for halo 6 with 30fps but having split screen.

Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if 343 tried to “redeem” her in the end, but once you indiscriminately murder innocent people and threaten others who would be “troublesome” (whatever that means) to her regime, I lost any sympathy I had for her. Furthermore, she knew quite well that Chief would never go along with her plan, so she intentionally acted nice to him (which failed to get him to support her), made it seem like she was trying to protect Chief from Warden (despite seemingly having the power to stop him far earlier yet did not to make her “rescue” seem more glorious), and then tried to imprison Chief and Blue Team against their will (despite never actually justifying her plan at all to Chief).

People can say she is suffering from the Logic Plague (which 343 has yet to convey in their games), or that the Didact is controlling her (nevermind the fact we don’t even know what happened to him outside of Escalation, or anything else, but I’m not buying those explanations due to a lack of evidence. As far as her future goes, I can’t say I’d care much unless she finally died. There is no going back to the good old days.

Master chief will sacrifice himself to stop her plan, she will realise how wrong she is but it will be too late to stop the process, chief will save mankind but die, cortana will live with her guilt and stay to guide Spartans of the future

That’s a possible scenario.

What will probably happen is that Cortana would undergo some sort of redemption (highly likely to be cliched). Honestly, I don’t think 343i has the gumption to just kill her off as a bad guy (and I don’t think that would do justice to the character, either), so what we’ll likely see is some sort of journey back to good for Cortana. Then it’s a question of whether she dies or survives after redemption.

The only even remotely satisfying conclusion I could possibly see at this point is for us to discover in H6 that H5’s antagonist is not the “real” Cortana, and that this has been some other agent - Didact, Gravemind, etc. - masquerading as her the whole time. Then the Chief will be appropriately mind-yoinked and we are still left with the powerful ending of H4, having to accept that she’s still gone. Otherwise, if this entity really is her, regardless of whether she is “killed” or “redeemed” in H6, her legacy is totally, utterly ruined to me. I’ll never be able to go back and replay the old campaigns without knowing that she had it in her to become a psychopathic supervillain (and yes that is what she is once she’s killed millions) the whole time.

Unless there’s a more subtle and nuanced way to end it that I’m not thinking of.

> but why would you make Cortana a crazy evil loonatic?

I think the real term is crazy evil and obssessed looney XD
But, back to the matter hand…I think she will redeem herself at the end…but she’ll die in the process.

I agree, in halo 6 I dont think she’ll be a bad guy. I feel like she’ll take over the forerunners tech and military.

You mean: will they kill her off again. I hope they don’t, kill one of the main characters off then bring them back as an antagonist just to kill them off again. Man they must really hate Cortana.

I feel like she’s not the ‘bad guy’ more so the misguided hero. I feel like she believes in her cause for good reasons but is slightly blinded of the implications of her actions via her rampancy

Shes may still be going through rampancy. Heres the description for rampancy:

Rampancy is a terminal state of being for Artificial intelligence constructs, in which the AI “develops delusions of godlike power,” as well as utter contempt for its mentally inferior makers.[1] When rampancy occurs, the AI becomes very unstable and can often lead their creators to terminate them due to a variety of reasons.

So she may still be rampant, but the domain may have only slowed down the rampancy.

I think killing innocent people and threatening others with death if they don’t obey your whim goes a bit beyond being a misguided hero. That’s straight up tyrannical. Nor do we really even know what her cause is. She talks about peace, yet is preparing for war. She talks about improving the lives of others, yet has no problem with indiscriminate killing. Frankly, I think she is trying to create a world where Chief doesn’t have to fight anymore and can be safe, but to do that she had to imprison him, manipulate him, and betray him.

She’s rotten to the core.

I think the forerunners are controlling her

She’s going to be saved by Master Chief then they’ll find away to make her human/a Spartan.

Taking bets now. Rec points only!!
