Halo 3 equipment + Halo 4 AAs = ? Deployable Armour Modifications ?
I’ll use the example of the Thruster Pack and the Deployable Gravity Lift.
Say you load out with a Thruster Pack, but end up wanting to ascend rapidly in a way that you can not do by simply jumping. You could then decide to deploy your Thruster Pack on the ground, converting it from a personal thruster to a temporary gravity lift allowing you to make the jump. Preferably you could deploy it on any surface being aimed at, which could lead to interesting Cat & Mouse scenarios.
Following this train of thought I arrived with the following list of considerations:
(eq. Armour Ability —> Deployable Equipment)
Map Defaults (Non-loadout armour modifications located on map)
Load-out Equipment
-Hardlight Shield → Deployable Cover
Power (Weapon) Equipment
-
Promethean Vision → Flare
-
Jet Pack → Man-Cannon (I’m not certain what the Jetpack could deploy to since I have Thruster as Gravity Lift)
-
Active Camouflage → Bubble Shield (Again, I am confused as to what this particular AA could deploy into)
What do you guys think? Is this a reasonable alternative to the current system? Do you have any suggestions for alternate deployments?
If you do like it, how about helping with a name for this thing? I’ve quite literally just conceived this and rushed to share my idea. The only name I have come up with at the moment is “Deployable Armour Modifications”… DAM.
This could be the refresher we’ve been waiting for in Halo multiplayer if it’s as good in game as it is in my head. A “Halo: Combat Renaissance”, and whatnot.
EDIT
This would also be best implemented separately from a traditional playlist — I don’t mean to suggest this become the end-all be-all of the Halo experience. I should have included the keyword “infinity” in there somewhere.
I’ve done a thread similar to this, sort of, I’m not sure what you are trying to get at here.
And besides, my idea was not that well received so a doubt yours will.
EDIT: Ok, I can now see what you are trying to get at here.
No- it would be too difficult to balance to be honest.
we need less AAs not make them stronger.
i personally dont agree with this, it just sounds like another gimmick that’ll kill the population if put in the game.
I’m just interested in seeing the multiplayer keep evolving, but in a way that pleases the majority of the community to keep population numbers up.
It would likely be difficult to balance, but that’s what play testing is for. The reason I thought it was a decent idea is just because the work for all these things already exist individually — all we need is some good glue.
I get what you’re saying — I couldn’t stand AAs in Reach — but I think they could be an interesting addition to the gameplay if we change them up a bit. I think they work very well in Halo 4, with a few exceptions. If the multiplayer never changes, it stagnates, and that can do just as much harm to the community in the long run unless we get something that can compete with other shooters through longevity alone.
When Halo 3 comes free next month we’ll know better what the future for Halo multiplayer should look like based on numbers, but I don’t think there will be enough time between that and Halo 5’s release to properly assess the situation.

i dont think any amount of play testing will fully balance an idea like this.
Because lets be honest 343’s play tester aren’t exactly top notch players they would probably use the AA’s how they were intended to be used instead of trying to figure out they could be abused.
Reach and H4 being prime cut examples of halo trying to “evolve” when it shouldnt and failing miserably.

Well, we got Quinn and Bravo in the seats for Halo 5, lets see if magic can happen.

This couldnt be farther from the truth look at CoD they release a clone copy of CoD each year and it makes a killing in sales and stays number one population wise.
Halo 3 was competing with cod 4 and mw 2 for the number one spot for 3 whole years till reach came out, reach being the first halo to change the core gameplay and it destroyed the population.
And halo 4 was an even bigger joke going even farther from the core gameplay and getting to populations reach had 2 years into its life in only 3 months.
i dont know what you will take from that but yeah if you think about it we need less change and we need to go back to our basics.
IMO.
its an interesting Idea, I personally would just go with a get 3 kills and unlock an AA use sort of idea. While making AA’s like PV,Jetpack, and invis powerups/equipment pickups.
how about AA’s as pick ups in a competitive playlist and AA’s as something you spawn with in a social playlist?
> how about AA’s as pick ups in a competitive playlist and AA’s as something you spawn with in a social playlist?
^^This is what I wanted from Halo 4 initially, but since 343 seems fond of their AAs I figured I’d expand on that idea for them to see what the community thinks.

I’m unsure how this would make AAs stronger. It would make them more diverse in use, but it would be a one time thing — you either keep the AA equipped or deploy it and continue on as an AA-less Spartan.
Honestly what should have been done since Reach is just as SpartanT110 and many others have said: 2 separate playlist groups. One for the traditional experience and one for the new -Yoink- they keep trying. = population saved.
