I picked it should all be free because let’s face it, I’m greedy and so is the majority of the human race.
The price is fair, but the DLC should be supported more.
343’s support of DLC maps in both Reach and Halo 4 has been awful. Why should we drop $10 on maps we’ll only get 43 days with?
Price is fine. Stop being cheap.
Yup the price is fine the way it is
I think 343 needs to add a little more content to match what is on the market today, especially since the maps in Halo 4 just haven’t been as good as previous titles. Obviously this isn’t going to happen soon though, and I will buy the Castle Map Pack for $10 without reservations.
I say $10 should get you 4 maps instead of 3 starting with the next batch of Map Packs. (or additional gametypes and vehicles. Something more…)
I think that the price should drop on Map Packs, after they have been out for six months, to $5.
When the next major Halo title comes out (odst and anniversary don’t count as major titles, I mean Halo 5) all map packs that have already dropped to $5 should be free to anyone who purchases Halo 5. And if any map packs have yet to be reduced from $10 they will be reduced to $5 dollars with the release of Halo 5. Then all map packs not included in the purchase of Halo 5 should be paired with new dlc, so when you buy the $10 Halo 5 DLC you also get a Halo 4 map pack free of charge.
This pricing system coupled with a discounted re-release of Halo 4, I think would encourage more purchases of both titles, and increase and maintain DLC purchases aross the board, without hindering initial sales, because the people that have always bought the DLC at $10 will continue to do so, and the people that haven’t will be encouraged into the market.

What are you talking about? The maps show up regularly. I regularly get them as voting options, and they get voted for around 40% of the time for me (the other 60% is for when they don’t appear or Ragnarok/Exile are in the voting options).
It SHOULD be $5, but that won’t happen. It would be nice, but it’s been $10 for a long time. All of Reach’s DLC was $10.
> Ya I’m done buying DLC maps forever. Such a ripoff especially in Canada. It’s 800 MS points, meaning you have to purchase 1000 points for $15. I don’t care if it’s 800 MS points, I still have to pay $15 to get the points to get the maps, so to me it costs $15…for 3 maps…that are usually average…that probably took the developers less than a week to make…that I hardly get to play on and the population count for the playlists is under 500 now.

> I’m done with it for sure. We need to demand fair pricing.
War Games Map Pass is only 2000ms points = $30 for you.
Better than purchasing separately
800ms points x 3 = $45 for you, but you’ll have 600ms points left over.
> Ms doesn’t allow dlc to be free if it has achievements with it. 5$ would be good tho.
That’s not true
I swear halo 2’s map packs went free after x months? Or am I thinking of something else?
> I swear halo 2’s map packs went free after x months? Or am I thinking of something else?
I’m certain they did.
Insatead, they should just make it better so the 10$ will be worthwile. A good new Forge map (that is actually big and open and fit for Forge) with new textures for the items (Forerunner or sandstone like in Sandbox or something entirely new like, I don’t know , ice lol)- basically a fresh looking Forge maps with a better and new item pallet- along with a couple of generic maps would definitely be worth 10$. Remember how substantial an improvement the Sandbox (Mythic I think) DLC was in Halo 3? Something like that.
Honestly, I feel that the way DLC is being made is just not right. Map packs should feature maps of greater quality than those that came with the disc, mainly because they cost already a sixth of the game’s price itself. The designers and artists also have a much more flexible schedule this time around, as the projects are either very small, or still too early in production for actual work outside of planification, and with experience from launch, they have more skills, experience and time to conceptualize and refine on what they’re working on. DLC and expansions should be considered as deluxe offerings for the game (and that improve the game), rather than some small-stepped continuation with inflated prices.

I agree. More quality, same price. The maps so far have been very standard, and with Halo 4’s Ordnance system they seem empty and pointless (whereas weapons on the map would have added to the map control element and given the maps a certain unique style). DLC should be a substantial piece of content, not just another map. Either make it worth 10$ or lower the price.
There really is no point in buying the map packs if playlists dont require them. Even if you have the maps they simply dont show up enough to be relevent.
H3 had it right and without the mappack you could only play social slayer. Would be nice if 343 went back to this and simulataneously sold the maps for 5$. But with H4 if you dont have the map packs you can play any playlist, meaning many just wont buy em

NO! Requiring ALL DLC to play all of the Halo 3 playlists was a - Yoink - move by Bungie. Like BTB? You need all DLC. Like ranked matches? You need all DLC. In the name of fan service, Bungie effectively killed the Halo 3 population in favor of Reach. 343 might pull this kind of - Yoink - move when they release Halo 5; it would be consistent with 343’s behavior thus far.
I don’t have an issue with the DLC, for I have the Limited Editon. Birhtday money well spent.
They should do what Bungie did with Halo 2, and what Microsoft prevented them from doing since. Make the map packs free after the subsequent one comes out (or after a set amount of time, whichever comes first).
Then make all free map packs required for matchmaking, period (with playlist/s still set aside for the latest pack if it is not yet free).
Microsoft is laughing in your face.
Maps should be free but without any of the extras. This is the way it should work so everyone gets the maps.
The people that have the “Season Pass” or buy the maps separately should get the full package. These people should get the maps 2-3 weeks early, achievements associated with the maps, new armor, weapon camos, map pack playlists, and whatever other goodies that are associated with the maps.
The people that choose to not buy the map packs or season pass would get the maps for free in a booster pack 2-3 weeks after the map pack buyers get the maps. They would basically only get the maps and nothing else.
This would do three very great very needed things. The first and most important thing would be, people spending money on the maps and actually getting to play them. Nothing is worse than buying DLC that hardly anyone else has. This really screws the buyers.
Second thing is the ability to play with your friends on the maps. If I’m playing with a handful of friends, chances are that at least one of them doesn’t have the DLC.
The third thing is bringing players back that lose interest. As a long time Halo fan I know a lot about losing interest in a Halo game for a little while. I also know that Halo games usually change a ton from release to a few months down the road. Free maps are a great way to get people to come back and they might enjoy the new maps and new changes.
Free DLC does nothing but good and 343 and MS should really try this method out. They would still be making money from people that want armor, achievements, emblems, etc. They would also keep online population. I think 343 and MS don’t realize that their are a ton of people that would pay for things like camos, armor, and whatnot. I would purchase these things just to support the free maps. Even if they didn’t go this route a free map or two every 5-6 months couldn’t hurt. I play games that I haven’t played in years if I’m going to get free DLC.
To anyone about to say MS would never give out free maps. They have basically done it with each GoW title and Halo has gotten free map packs in the past(All H2 maps after a while and Cold Storage in H3). A lot of people don’t understand that even the current Halo map packs could become free. MS doesn’t make maps with achievements attached free but it’s not like they couldn’t make booster packs without the achievements like they did for GoW3. I know that isn’t practical but that doesn’t make it impossible.
Long story short, free map booster DLC should be a standard for shooter games. Everyone in the game should have the maps because it ends up screwing buyers and non-buyers alike.
