Fun question lol

So the year is 2017, everything is going as usual, ya know, everyday life when all of a sudden a lone Covenant ship comes out of slipspace, How would the world fare against lets say…a CCS-class battlecruiser? Would we have the necessary firepower to even break its shields?

Then we are screwed!

No.

Well, I’ve seen multiple threads touching on what would happen if the entire Covenant empire attacked modern Humanity. Almost all of the posts in each unanimously agreed that we would essentially be screwed over.

But your post is unique. A single battlecruiser? This is interesting indeed. I guess it all boils down to what that lone ship decides to do. Does it stay in orbit and glass the continents one by one? Does it deploy some ground forces to secure a military presence on the ground? It’s also all up to two fundamental questions: can the world’s nukes be the answer to taking down that ship, and how well will our militaries hold their own against Covenant ground troops?

If we can hit it then surely. I don’t think nukes in Halo are that much more advanced. A few nukes would do the trick. As for the ground military they would need a huge army to invade a whole planet. They would be easily overrun.

We probably would be screwed

If its a single ship then it could be nuked down but it would also make massive damage in multiple ways. The fallout of nukes, its own firepower, the impact when it comes down etc etc… but i doubt a single cruiser could take out the entire modern humanity. Some more ships could be required.
But still, i think there is no real answers since this is comparing fiction to reality and its almost same with cross universe comparisons. Its unaccurate at best and full guesses at worst.

Also, i think i would be pretty safe given i live in smaller city and the ship could likely target some bigger targets. Tough luck for others.

Shields on many mid-sized Covenant Capital ships take at least tens or hundreds of gigatons TNT-equivalent energy directed into them in order to collapse. Nuclear weapons are not directed energy, so most of the power of the bombs would be wasted in all of the other directions. The result is that a unified Earth would be extremely unlikely to be able to take down a CCS Battlecruiser in orbit with the weapons available to us.

Well the spartans were the first to figure out that the ships had shields and can be destroyed, so i dont think that we can do anything but hope they allow us to join the covenant.:pensive:

Humanity dies in this scenario plain and simple.

Not likely if you remember as to why the prophets wanted the humanity to be destroyed.

Yeah Truth wouldn’t like us but if he isn’t in the ship then we could possibly join up or we would die.

Only solution, kinda stupid but might save our lives in the long run.

Covenant will might land on Earth. If they are hostile then the plan I have will possibly work. We attempt to drive them off world through defenses. Meanwhile then, the military builds underground homes, similar to something like the Metro series (if you haven’t read them, then make them your top priority) then, if all done, proceed to…well…

Nuke the entire planet

Now hear me out before you get into a stage of “wait what, why?!?” Or “are you joking” etc, etc…
They, for us, are hostile. But humans today don’t know what glassing is. So… All we know is that they’re going to take the planet for themselves or kill our whole race off. Any case, this plan works anyway.
We nuke the planet (but first Transporting as much life as possible underground) causing the almost certainty of Earth’s destruction. But at least there is still life then if they glass the planet. The covenant, in a state of confusion and maybe shock, see that the planet is no longer an asset for them and return to high Charity ((if that exists)Thus, life will continue to exist underground.

RIP Earth

I’ve recently found something out.Technically, glassing the entirety of Earth’s surface is physically impossible for a single ship. To actually kill us all off, the personnel on that battlecruiser are gonna have to get extra close and personal… so perhaps, we might stand a chance. Just thought I might put this onto the table.

Not every glassing turned the planet’s surface into a rolling magma ocean like we see in Mortal Dictata. More common was melting the entire planet to a lesser depth like we see with Jericho 7 in the Fall of Reach. 36 ships glassed the planet in 1 hour, which means one ship could glass a planet in roughly 36 hours. Of course there’s the variables of whether the ships have to turn off other systems to pour that power into the weapons (such isn’t stated in the novels). If that level of firepower required pouring the energy from the shields, then a single ship would probably keep its shields up, resulting in the process likely taking upwards of a week instead of a day in a half.

Its more a about that humanity puts their power and faith system to danger but you can find the details on Halo products themselves or in the internet.

But basically prophets wouldnt take the risk of their subjects finding out the truth about Halos and the great journey. at least some of them.

Yes, lets definitely destroy all our means of survival (food, pure water… even air etc etc) and save the trouble from the carrier. If nothing else kills of the rest of the humanity then nuclear winter and famine. What a fun end of days for rest of humanity, instead of at least trying to fight off the threat lets just nuke ourselves and starve.

I know this is a bit simplified but it includes some main points (too much to list as to why nuking the entire planet would be a really bad idea).

If its the end of humanity then at least make it memorable and take out as much of those alien invaders as possible. And not a memorable in a way that humanity could send itself out, with a bang.

Just a little reference there.
