While I am sure the gameplay is going to be smooth and the enemies interesting, with the removal of the Covenant as a primary enemy I am worried that all the enemies we will face from here on (Forerunner Prometheans, Sentinels of all shapes and sizes, the Flood, and other indigenous wildlife stored in the installations by the Librarian) will lack the silliness that the species in the Covenant had when we fought them. Be it the grunt’s random phrases and exploding methane tank, the Kig-yar running away when the going got tough, the Elites roaring and posturing right before you kill them, and the Brutes loping around stupidly when htey flew into berserker rage.
However, when we read the books (particularly Glasslands, Cryptum, and Primordium) we see that the Forerunner superstructures tended to have Sentinels, Monitors, and Huragok. Of the Forerunner military hardware, they had War Sphinxes, Seekers, and their various starboats. Since War Sphinxes and Seekers have imprinted into their AI the mind of their last owner, I am sure these could engage on their own and be possible enemies for us. But I am getting off topic.
The point is, their seemed to be an extreme lack of humor in the Forerunners world. Even in the books the Forerunner rarely seem to be able or want to tell a joke or laugh. All their tech tended to be serious business. The exception was 343 Guilty Spark, who we find was a human…and he’s a little nutty, so his love of jokes is understandable. The other monitors however have been pretty serious.
So what’s going to make us laugh? What have we seen so far in the world of Forerunner, the Flood, and Precursor’s that looks like it might be comical to fight against?
Well, Grunts and Elites are confirmed to appear in the game. But they will probably be the only Covenant remnants we see. And there’s no confirmation on whether they are used in Campaign, Multiplayer, or both. Or whether they will be allies, or enemies.
Who said the Covenant won’t be in Halo 4?
Wait until we find out exactly who we’re fighting before you make assumptions.

Link?
Also if some of the forerunner AIs are gone rampant like 343 guilty spark then they might say and do some random stuff during combat.
That’s a pretty big spoiler in your third paragraph. Thanks to your spoiler I really want to go to the store right now and get the forerunner saga books, but I have no money right now so I’m screwed.

If you have ever played Halo 3 then you would know that the Covenant was destroyed. If you read Glasslands then you would know that there is only a small group of elites and brutes that are still loyal to the cause of the Covenant. There will be no Covenant in Halo 4, only a small group lead by Sangheili monks.

That’s not confirmation, the pics on the boxes are from Halo Reach. Unless someone from 343 says they’re in the game it’s best to assume they’re not

Dude, those are probably just placeholders…

The Images are all placeholders. But the information on what is in the Boxes ARE real. It is CONFIRMED that a Ghost comes with a Grunt and Elite, and a Banshee comes with 2 Elites.

And to confirm they are from Halo 4, just read the Waypoint update on the subject:

The Covenant itself was dismantled. Of the Covenant, the only species that remains able to disrupt UNSC operations are the San-Shyuum, who still possess a large contingent of Huragok and Forerunner ships, but they withdrew into their Shield System. I can see them possibly showing up with their loyal Jiralhanae and a few loyal grunts, but I doubt the Kig-yar are still rolling with them, and the Sangheili - heyeellll nah, they hate the so called “Prophets” of the Covenant. On top of that, the UNSC Infinity is going to be making an appearance, and I am sure at some point we are going to be fighting on it for whatever reason (interior ship combat levels are a staple of the franchise, except for ODST and Reach) but it is the most advanced ship in the galaxy, trumping all covenant tech before that, so the only major threat would be those from within or Forerunner ships attacking it.
Needless to say, unless some crazy political reconstruction takes place, we are not going to see mixed deployments of covenant as primary enemies in Halo 4.

Please, use spoiler tags. You just spoiled that Guilty Spark was a human. To use spoiler tags, just click on that [BB/] on the right side and click on spoiler.

I’m pretty sure that the grunts and elites are a part of the Halo line of toys but not the Halo 4 line, anyways though they’re not confirmed to be in the game until 343i says something offically.

You’re confusing the lineups.
Mcfarlane is doing a Halo Universe line, and a Halo 4 line. Mcfarlane’s Halo Universe line has been revealed, but not their Halo 4 line.
JADA is doing ONLY a Halo 4 line, they aren’t making non-Halo 4 content. And the JADA lineup is the one that confirms the Elites and Grunt.

Thats still the Covenant.
If Catholicism announces that they’re getting rid of the Pope, their followers are still Catholics.

They don’t call themselves the Covenant though. They call themselves something different. I don’t remember what because I finished reading glasslands 2 months ago.
