A good Halo game isn’t just purely competitive or social. It is a mix of both, and those game modes have to be fun and engaging. It’s all about balance.
So far, we’ve seen 343’s ideas for competitive modes. They will most certainly be emphasizing that in the full game due to the casual nature of Halo 4. So, what are some of you’re ideas for social and purely fun game modes for Halo 5? They could be new game modes, they could be old ones, or they could be old ones with a twist. I wish that they brought Headhunter back, as it was tons of fun to play in free for all on Reach. I don’t know whether or not it was in past Halo games. I also want to see Flood again, this time without the lobster claw.
Leave your ideas down below!
I could think of a few gametype variants using the new abilities, but new gamemodes is difficult.
A sort of Smash-Bros gametype involving the Spartan Charge and Melee, with a central sword or hammer as a power weapon.
Maybe powerups like speedboost and damage boost spawn at random as well.
Griffball using Ricochet settings with the Prophet’s Bane to accomodate for ball throwing.
Halo 2 Anniversary added scripting to Forge. So maybe a deathrun kind of gamemode. If you don’t know what deathrun is, search Gmod Deathrun or CS Deathrun. Similar to that train of thought, a parkour race map where the goal is to reach the end fastest. Would utilize clamber, grenade jumping, so on.
The game needs a racing playlist. Don’t care if its rocket race, or with normal warthogs, or whatever. Something fun like that shouldn’t be relegated to customs.
Infection/Living Dead/Flood. If they add it, they should actually remove the ability for Spartans to use the Thruster and only allow the Infected to use them.
I actually made a thread in the MCC section asking where are the “Simple Silly” game types in BTB…since they have been mostly left out.
The OP of this this thread is on to something here. The best way to cater to the casual community and those just looking to relax/take a breather is to provide some Simple Silly game types. In prior Halo games, you mostly found this in Big Team Battle from time to time. Things like Rockets-only, Snipers-only, Rockets/Lasers-only, etc. In MCC we have Gungoose CTF in Big Team but that is the exception. In Halo 4 and now MCC, it seems like 343 has just ignored the issue and left it for others to do in customs.
Here is an example from Halo CE: Prisoner | Halo Alpha | Fandom
“Some players make a 16 person CTF servers with only rocket launcher, fuel rod cannon and the flamethrower. This creates a fast paced, chaotic but balanced game where players never survive for more than over a minute.”
Its small things like this that improve the likelihood of a community staying strong for a longer period of time. For some reason 343 seems to ignore the positives of having some of these simple silly game types thrown in from time to time. So its good to see people trying to raise a little awareness about this issue.
I wish 343 catered to casuals by allowing for variety in game-types like this and what others are saying in the thread. Casuals and dabblers will always have a reason to return simply due to the variety of gameplay. Instead 343 seems bent on changing the actual mechanics and mechanisms in Halo as a way to cater to casuals and dabblers. The latter won’t provide much benefit for Halo, but what everyone in here and the OP are talking about actually can help.
able to play as flood, not H4 spartan flood, have a spartan design mixed in with the flood, maybe have a few pieces of armor sticking out. but the humans get thruster but move at 90%. and the flood get a super leap, and it goes 3rd person maybe the breakout animation for super leap. and have in have a pounce where you super leap the tackle the spartan and kill in of use a knife
Huge scale btb with AIs. Spartans, odsts, and marines vs brutes, elites, and prometheans. Each species/soldier spawns with specific gear, but it’s not customizable.
Not new but Firefight coming back would be great also. (or perhaps a Firefight sequel of sorts)

I’m curious to see how TTT would work in Halo. Sounds fun!
How about these:
Parkour- a Race gametype that’s on foot, on custom built Forge maps that offer many obstacles and require you to master the different movement abilities in order to win
Monitor- a Juggernaught gametype where the Juggernaught is the Forge monitor, outfitted with a Splaser beam. The maps would be riddled with heat-seeking power weapons to make it actually possible to kill him.
Generator Defense- like in Reach, an assymetrical game mode where one team has to destroy the other’s generators in time
Generator Defense X- I don’t know what to call it, but it would basically be like the normal GenDef just that the players get to build their own bases with the Forge monitor and place their generator as well as walls and traps and weapons within a set budget and a set amount of time. This one’s a bit complicated (both for the player and the devs- to prevent cheating) and requires Forge knowledge, but could end up being really fun and innovative.
Artifact- in a way similar to Oddball (but in BTB), except the artifact grants the player unique traits. The player needs to hold the Artifact in his team’s base and await extraction (which could take maybe 2 minutes, and then a pelican arrives). What traits does the artifact give? I’m thinking that it gives the player an Overshield and a Speed Boost… BUT every few seconds, it pulses and releases an EMP that takes out the player’s shields and that of anyone near him as well as stopping any vehicles in their place. Which means you have to take the Artifact on foot. The inconsistency of your shields would make for some crazy scenarios too- within a second (even in the middle of a firefight), the carrier could become invincible, or entirely vulnerable.
Space Battle- 'nuff said. Two Motherships- two engine rooms, two bombs, bigass space dogfighters (Sabers, Broadswords, Longswords, Seraphs, Space Banshees, Pelicans, Phantoms… any of those really) in an epic and beautiful space setting.

There was a mod in Halo 4 for it and it was awesome!, then with Halo 2 Anniversary featuring Juggernaut, I’ve made a pretty good replica. However it involves honor rule’s (Don’t go on a killing spree if your not the killer, don’t kill for about 10 second’s, etc.) so it shouldn’t be in Matchmaking just Customs
