This is a fun little topic I had going on in my head after reading The Next 72 Hours again. I am a major fan of Greek mythology, I’ve studied and researched it ever since I was around 10 years old. And the use of Greek mythology in Halo is great, and this one is no exception. In Halo: Escalation-The Next 72 Hours, Master Chief, the Spartan stabs the powerful being, the Didact in the eye while he was trying to kill his friends/allies. Now I don’t know if this was intentional or not, but to me it seems very similar to a part in The Odyssey when Odysseus (although not a Spartan) took the eye of the Cyclops Polyphemus (Poseidon’s son). Poseidon is then furious at Odysseus and desires to have him killed. Maybe I’m looking too much into this, but I find these little references and homages to old tales, history, and mythologies quite subtle and well done. Did anyone else kind of notice this?
That is cool. I am a fan of stuff like that but am too lazy to truely study it, so I must admit that it mostly goes over my head. This topic made me think back to when we read this in junior high though. Cool observation!
Except the Ur-Didact has two eyes and since they were not on Requiem they were not in his “home.” He has no known or living father and if we assumed the Forerunner polity at remains is meant to be a paternal entity, they despise him. Or should. As their founders were the Iso-Didact who wanted him dead, and the Lifeworkers, who he screwed over.
So likely not an intentional reference, at all.
I think the point of that was more to set up a reflection/contrast with Chief ( His visor is broken and eye visible)

I hadn’t thought of that. Very interesting.
