Full weapon customization

What if in Halo Infinite, we have the ability to change everything about every weapon. I’m talkin barrel length, stocks, sights, skins. The whole 9 yards. Do you think 343 would want to make Infinite have something like this?

In Halo 5 you could almost choose the weapon that most suited you in Warzone with different scopes and barrel attachments, but I think the game would then be changed completely if in arena gamemodes you could change your weapons attachments, similar to CoD

That would be cool, although this should be posted in the Halo Legends forum thread ^^

So pretty much the gunsmith like in CoD? Because if that’s what you mean then it’s a terrible idea for Halo. Most hardcore Halo fans aren’t even a fan of what Halo 5 did with spartan abilities, adding complete gun customization would kill the Multiplayer for hardcore fans.

I don’t think it really fits in the type of game that Halo is, which is a sandbox type game where variation to weapons comes from what you pick from the field, customizeable weapons would have basically 2 options,
Either only starting weapons are customized making them either pretty useless upgrades because of limited ammo or if there is abundance of ammo the starting weapons would devaluate the weapons in the sandbox itself.
Or every dropped weapon is customized one (that you tinker in the menu, likely) which wouldn’t really make sense from the storytelling perspective, it could also work as an unnecessary variable for difficulty.
But even if it would be brought in through gameplay priorization perspective, I still don’t see it bringing much of value to already existing sandbox oriented gameplay.
Mostly just the tinkering, for the fun of it I guess, probably some like that.
So I would prefer keeping focus on developing something else as this type of aspect doesn’t seem to be that high on the list imo.

Interesting concept. If this were to be implemented it could not affect gameplay, As someone who is sympathetic to the Classic/competitive halo cause, I know that anything that even touches the holiest of holies or vanilla h1-3 gameplay, will cause a further loss to the dedicated base of players who have stuck with this game. Some of whom will be there longer than those who try to make a halo flavored clone of their favorite FPS.

I hope that didn’t sound too harsh, but I think steps can be made to implement these ideas. First cosmetic items such as different skins will definitely be there. Different barrel lengths, shape of optics, stocks, etc. can happen, but reticle and aim down reticles should not change, same with gun sound and other aspects of performance.

While this is a really cool idea, and works well for modes like Warzone in H5, it undermines the concept of fair starts in competitive Arena gametypes.

Halo is no stranger to modded weapons and weapon skins. But that depends on the multiplayer direction 343 is going. If they want to be more traditional with the even-playing field, don’t expect too much of that.

Not going to lie, I loved the energy Bayonet on my Assault Rifle. I really hope that at least comes back.

I’m going to go with no. Although I do think you could easily make a game set in the Halo universe that supports that sort of customization, it isn’t a good fit for a mainline Halo title. Unless it is totally cosmetic I’m not at all interested.

I’d much rather see robust mod support as soon as possible so folks can go wild without affecting the core experience.

I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw some form of weapon customization in CAMPAIGN ONLY. A lot of the rumors about Infinite are that it’s a far larger, or “open world” type game compared with the previous titles and weapon customization could fit into that nicely as an additional game mechanic to more tailor the combat to your preferences. Again, these are unsubstantiated rumors so take them with a grain of salt.

We will NOT have customization in competitive multiplayer (Arena). One of the fundamental tenants of arena shooters is equal starts with every competitive advantage (better weapons, power ups, map control, etc) coming from your performance IN THE ARENA and not from a selection screen beforehand.

I think it’s fair to see everyone say “no it should be even” but to me it’s an accessibility issue. Make it a real sophie’s choice, but give everyone the choice. Listen I love Halo. Got Halo 1 when it came out when I was in high school. But adding additional layers would be a good thing, so long as everyone had access. You make a -Yoink- choice and start with a weapon that doesn’t reload quickly? Your fault. But you have access and ability. Freedom in choice is my point.

I disagree completely, the moment you add loadouts you’ve destroyed what makes Halo an arena shooter. I wouldn’t mind if they had a game mode like warzone with these options, but having all playlists use gun loadouts and you’re right back to where Halo 4 was, which has arguably the most disliked multiplayer (probably Halo 4 or Reach) in Halo history.

No there should be only 1 version of every gun having custom weapons makes the game unbalanced

Sounds cool, but I don’t think this goes with the core Halo gameplay.

It’s a cool concept in general but would ruin the balance start aspect. If they did something like this I would hope it would be tied to a specific mode like Warzone.

Fair point. Yes then there should be some non-ranked, larger outlet for that.
