I’m not a big fan of complaining, so I shall do my best not to.
I got word of the flight by email a couple days ago, and very eagerly downloaded the Steam version. It booted up fine, menu worked fine, everything seemed fine. That is, until I made my way to the Firefight menu, where I was about to join a match. I excitedly waited for the match to start, as this would be my first time playing a proper Halo game ever. And then, this popped up.
LowLevelFatalError [File:Unknown] [Line: 1128]
GameThread timed out waiting for RenderThread after 120.00 secs
Then the game crashed. I tried again, and the same thing happened. Again and again and again the same error would pop up. So, I made my way over to the Halo Support website, and entered in a request ticket, and waited. a couple hours later, a bot responded, saying Halo Support will update me shortly.
2 days later, that update still hasn’t come.
I understand this is part of the process; I’m aware other people have this bug too, and I bet I’m not the only one disappointed here. The whole point of beta testing is to report bugs, and sometimes that means bugs that break the game completely and prevent actual gameplay. Even so, I really just wan’t to point out how aggravating this all is. From the game not working, from the request ticket not being answered, everything has just led to disappointment. But, I know this is just how it is sometimes. I am a patient man.
So I will wait for another chance.
I’ll wait as long as I have to.
This is why there isn’t a wide release yet. This sort of frustrating bug ruins the game and is the reason for the flights.
It’s terrible that you got caught with it and I’m sure they will be looking at your ticket eventually, just with all the feedback from the flight it might take a little time.
It’s also too bad that your first halo experience was a flight and not a full game. Hopefully you can reserve judgement until reach fully releases.
At the end of the day we are flighting to help the development of the game, not so that we can play it a bit early.
Something in your system has caused this bug to occur and this could have happened in the full release if not for the fact that you have reported it now. So essentially you have succeeded in your job here.
Now if this problem persists in the full release then you have an excuse to get mad.
give it time i am sorry you had to deal with these sort of issues! i suppose i had the dank rng because i never had any issue aside from crashing while looking at things in the overlay during a map load. just keep the faith!
Please make sure you submit a full bug report to the appropriate forum, including your dxdiag info if requested as there may be some common hardware/driver causing this issue for you and other players. The more people that are submitting proper bug reports the quicker the issue can be identified and eliminated.
From what ive seen online and on these forums you are one of several people that suffered from the same or similar bugs on this flight. I fully understand your disappointment and frustration, and i hope you have better luck on your next flight. You may not have gotten to play, but your experiences with this bug will still be useful in the end.
Yup same here. I updated steam, drivers and windows hoping that would help but no luck. Maybe next time!
IMO pretty entitled to feel “disappointed” after encountering a bug during your voluntary testing of a pre-release build. If you have an issue with expectations, suggest you just wait for final release. Otherwise, I think we should all be glad you encountered a bug and are subsequently helping us all get a better final version!

And in all fairness, the whole point in these flights is for people to find such bugs, so that they don’t occur during the full release.
