Frustrations with Warzone Firefight

I was just curious if other people get frustrated with Warzone Firefight. For it’s when I deal majority DPS or all DPS to a boss just to die when the boss is almost dead and have another player run up with the answer and kill him in 2 shots and me not getting any credit for the damage I dealt just cause I died a second before the boss did.

Yeah, that’s just one of the numerous issues with Firefight.

I’m not gonna do another list of stuff since I already did a few these somewhat recently, but I lost another 2 Warden game on Sanctum last night because I only had one person use a decent vehicle and he didn’t last long due to being overwhelmed by Knights. The rest either didn’t use any vehicles or they used ones that were terrible for that round. It was a round 5 JIP game so at least I didn’t have to waste my entire time on that game. Probably my biggest annoyance with FF.

I agree, the way they give out credit for boss takedowns can be very irritating especially if you’re a Warthog driver. I think my biggest issue with Warzone Firefight (besides the fact that 343 doesn’t seem interested in fixing its problems) is that req weapons are heavily outclassed by vehicles because they run out of ammo. I would love to get some use out of my req weapons in firefight, but it’s almost never the right choice if I want to be as effective as possible.

Warzone Firefight is a broken game mode made for a broken system. There is no reason to use infantry weapons when you can use a vehicle with infinite ammo. Sadly, Halo 5 has been out for way too long for anyone to fix it. Hopefully, Halo 6 will be free from game-design-altering micro transactions, but I doubt it. For Halo 5, reputation wasn’t worth as much as short-term profits to the project lead(s) at 343 Industries.

Another three problems that’ve really been making me edge towards breaking my controller are:

  • The Prometheans - Homing attacks - Nade spam
    Let’s start with the Prometheans.

Now, don’t misunderstand me. I actually kind of enjoy killing the Prometheans, but that may just be because of pent-up anger towards their overpowered design. In spite of that, they are, IMO, fun to fight (unpopular opinion?).
My problems with the Prometheans branch into two in particular:

  • Their spawns - The swarmingLet me just tell you this. If you manage to take a base back from the Prometheans, then you better start thanking God because that was -Yoinking- divine intervention. That is truly just how ridiculous the Prometheans’ spawning and swarming is. Once you manage to clear out a base, oh look! There’s 5 fleets of them coming right at your door! And when you add in the fact that they can sometimes spawn behind someone running to the base? It’s an 85% chance for a DNF, especially because it’s usually in the early rounds. Also, do I need to mention that Phaetons can also join in with the rest of the Soldiers and Crawlers?

Onto homing attacks.

Now when I say homing attacks, I don’t mean Suppressors and Boltshots. I mean boss weapons.

Hunters and Knights are the biggest perpetrators of this. I once spawned in an ONI Wasp (Random Vehicle Card) into round 5, Darkstar. And, what do you know? It’s Knight Nobles. I go in, I take a good chunk of health out of the Knights, and once they absolutely murdered the Scorpion next to me, it one-shotted me with a Heartseeker. Mind you, cover didn’t save me. The Heartseeker literally follows you around corners. There was a thread about something similar to this, the Harbingers on Sanctum.

While Hunter Cannons are far less egregious with the sheer amount of damage they do per shot, it doesn’t matter. The Hunter Cannon on Mythic Hunters is a tracking Light of Urs. They can fire 5 shots in 2 seconds!

Get this. I was going towards a pile of my teammates’ bodies to scavenge for weapons (I’m in REQ famine atm, don’t judge). I found a SPNKr EM. The Hunters are firing at this Anti-Air Wraith next to me, and while they’re firing, one of the missiles changes course towards me. I -Yoink- you not, I was coming out behind the Wraith the second it changed course. Needless to say, it was a one-shot.

Finally, onto nade spam.

Have you guys ever had the misfortune of playing the Sanghelli General on Apex 7? If so, you know exactly what I’m talking about. If I had to guess the Elites’ weapon of destruction, I would bet a kidney it’s the Plasma Grenade. Elite bosses have an unlimited supply of grenades, and they often spawn in tight areas. Do the math.

I swear this game hates me. Over the past two and half days, I’ve played Sanctum six times with three of them being tonight playing it three times in a row. I didn’t think it was possible, but I lost on the round 5 with three Wraiths. No one has ever heard of a Spartan laser? If I knew that was going to happen, I would’ve got out of my tank earlier, but I was too busy getting pummeled while shooting enemies and the Wraiths at the same time not thinking that hardly anyone else was gonna contribute.

My new frustration for JIP games is why do we have to wait for that round’s respawn timer amount before being able to join the game? In round 5, I have to wait 30 seconds before joining which is ridiculous.

That really sucks  If you want, you can message me if you want to play sometime in case you need a firefight teammate who at least calls in reqs. I’m usually on later in the day

Yeah I’ll join too if you guys ever got an opening

One thing I’ve never understood is usually when it is “defend the building/objective” you and your team are on the other side of the map and the enemies always spawn inside or right next to the point of interest. It makes no sense to me.

  • Emphasis added by me - Amen to the Promethean spawning, and even the Covenant in some instances. It’s a cheap death when they spawn behind you and insta-kill you. - Hunter and Knight homing weapons are a bit ridiculous. The Hunters in Halo 5 in general are not well done in my opinion, a traditional fuel rod is fine. The homing cannons are OP. The Knights incineration cannons are a bit much, too, IMO. - That line about the kidney had me cracking up. Yeah their grenades are over the top.

My main gripe with FF is how useless REQ weapons are. They can be just as costly as vehicles but have limited ammo. I don’t mind using weapons but it kind of sucks waiting for your meter to refill long after the weapon is gone. Makes me wish the meter was similar to Turbo. Just let us use whatever we want!

Oh man I am glad others have come out and confirmed I am not the only one frustrated to no end with the point distribution system. When WZFF was first announced I was sure I was gonna spend a lot of time actually enjoying playing WZFF. However the broken point distribution system, vehicle > REQ weapons system, and the ridiculous bosses and enemies spawns makes it one of the most unenjoyable gamemodes (barring being pub-stomped in BTB because you’re solo-queuing). You will never catch me driving a warthog, or any vehicle where I don’t have control of the main gun for that fact, because even with Wheelman you hardly get any points/credit for your contribution. WZFF is just a flaming heap, but man is it good for REQ points and XP…

I am also down to play, I’ve been looking for people to play Halo 5 with anyways.

I played a match today, that someone kill stealed both of the Grunt Goblins in a single round. There was a Hannibal Scorpion driver who seemed most unhappy a single player hogged both kills. Of course, it was my Halo 5 multi version of Catina A131, my Spartan III original character who stole both of those kills.

What’s dps?

There is a specific reason for it being that way on the Darkstar’s round 1 defend the armory, but yeah it’s still pretty silly. Telling us what the upcoming objective will be during intermissions would have helped a lot for things like this.

I know right? This is such a huge problem with WZFF it’s hard to believe 343 hasn’t fixed it yet.

It stands for “damage per second” but in this case I think simply saying “damage” would have sufficed.

Don’t forget maps where you have to fight two normal wardens and two mythic ones. I don’t recall the name, but it’s a winter map and every time it’s that boss variation I lose. You don’t get enough time, or you usually don’t have teammates with the firepower to do anything.

Also, homing weapons are annoying. It’s also annoying when there are phaetons so you spawn like a hannibal wasp, but the phaetons only target you. I’ve got clips of this on my xbox pretty sure, where everyone is drilling into the phaetons yet all of the phaetons are just targeting me and my wasp. Wasp is made pretty much worthless in this gamemode because of this.

Yea that is triggering.

March on Stormbreak. It’s also on Urban and Escape from ARC. I think the biggest issue on those maps is their location. I hardly ever lose that round on ARC, but I do on the other maps, and I think it’s because of how cramped it is in the base to move around with bigger vehicles allowing the legendary Wardens to hit you easier and the mythic Warden is on an elevated platform with a small opening making it harder to shoot him.

I experienced the OP’s frustrations last night with not getting credit for two rounds in a row except I didn’t die. The first was with multiple Phaetons which I was shooting with my Hannibal Wasp and then after that was with the Banshee. I did heavy damage to it, but didn’t get the kill. So annoying.
