Frustrating, but seriously. This game is amazing

A majority of the posts in the forums have been bashing 343i and how “they’ve officially doomed the Halo series”. I won’t lie and say that I’m not as equally disappointed as the majority that matchmaking isn’t working on day one release. I was as eager as everyone else to be able to relive my younger days with my best friends playing a game we know and love, and it SHOULD have passed all QC to make sure it does. But… seriously, we all need to step back and take a look at what 343i has been able to accomplish.

I obviously don’t know how… but let’s say with “PFM” (and emulators?) they have been able to combine 4 games, that were from different systems, different architectures, going back as far as 2001 ALL into ONE game on a next gen console that none of them were designed for. Even more impressive is being able to instantly switch back and forth between old and new with a press of a button in campaign along with smooth 60fps multiplayer experiences (when it works as expected). There’s a reason why you weren’t able to just pop Halo 4 into your brand new xbox one and play, the systems weren’t designed to handle that. Somehow 343i kept forcing the concept together and they made it happen. “PFM”.

I paid 60$ for the game and I expected it to work, but I’m willing to give 343i the time they need to live up to their promise and deliver. If they can get this patched (which I’m assuming the will, hopefully sooner rather than later) then it’s a promise of countless hours of fun in the future, more than what most 60$ games provide. It’s old content for the most part, but honestly… I played each Halo game from the time it came out till the next one was available and still had fun for all those years. I’m looking forward to enjoying everything when it’s fixed.

They promised a lot. They’ve accomplished A LOT. They messed up royally on release day… but it’s still amazing what they have been able to do.

I got a good laugh when somebody said this game was just copy and pasting older Halo games together.

I don’t know much about coding, but I know stringing together all of this must of been a nightmare for the coders.

I couldn’t agree with this more. I’m frustrated. I’ve been getting mismatches of uneven games all day. But once this works, it will be the best $60 ever spent on a game, wait 4 GAMES. 4 in 1. That’s hard to manage. Relax everyone. We’re all here for Halo.

That’s cute because 343i did none of that. All the remastering was by Saber.

I hear you man…

It seems that whenever a new game for the Xbox One comes out it lags for the first few days or weeks until everything is fixed.

The only problem I’m having is with certain achievements and colour customizations but I could never bash 343 for this. I’m no hater.

Also, the Battlefield 4 launch was significantly worse. It was almost unplayable for half a year if not longer.

You’re totally right, it was remastered by someone else… but can you imagine the engineering that is behind being able to “play” both simultaneously? To be able to switch between them so seamlessly, you got to admit is impressive…

Agreed… but lucky for them, the following wasn’t as fanatic as the following for Halo. 343i did promise a lot, sadly… they over promised and under delivered on launch.

I had an argument on twitter earlier (god knows why i engage!) some kid was basically saying microsoft has scammed money out of us for an old game, I explained its great value for money and has taken a lot of time and hard work to get it how it is. he said F you the game was already made it took them minutes to put it on the disc and get it working… i started to explain its not just a case of copy and paste… then i just gave up and thought why am i bothering. This kind of thing has never been done before and i can totally appreciate the complexity of it all in one UI and how difficult it was to get working. As Max Hoberman said when 343 told him of their intentions to do this “I thought they were insane” and that was from a seasoned developer with over 20 years coding experience…
