From the ground up..

is it just me or do they say this in every interview/post ever lmao

nope I think they just wanna emphasize the fact that its a new engine made for xbox 1 and such

It’s just you. You’re hearing things.

No. Halo 5 has a new engine. Every Halo has been built off of a heavily modified version of the last game’s engine. Some iterations have been more drastic than others (CE to Halo 2) while others have not (Halo 2 to Halo 3).

Apparently, they scrapped everything and started from scratch for Halo 5. I’m sure there are aspects of code in there from earlier games, but the bulk of the engine is brand new.

The Xbox One is a lot different than the 360 or the original Xbox, so building a new engine specifically to run on the Xbox One was necessary.

They’re marketing this pretty hard since it’s a big deal for a Halo game … so yes, “lmao”. Hilarious stuff, right there :stuck_out_tongue:

They wanna ephasize the fact that the game will be terrible in some things, we know the tactic we saw it with FIFA 15. It’s like they say don’t get mad that this this this this and this isn’t working, it’s a new engine.

I think they want to emphasise the fact that this game is bespokely made to run on the xbox one. As opposed to the MCC.

Like everyone else said, emphasis on a new engine.

I thought I heard somewhere that they are using an extremely modified version of Halo 4’s engine, where they changed almost everything but still reused parts of it so it wouldn’t be 100% new scripted…

Important note: I can’t recall where I got this from so this could be completely false, please don’t blame me if this is the case. Btw. I’m fine with H5’s engine, this was just a statement on the “from the ground up” sentence.

Well, I haven’t head it in every post and interview…but to be fair, you’d be pretty damn proud if you’d reconstructed and rebuilt an entire, ancient engine geared for Xbox One. They’re probably just happy about their work.

Think that was what they did with Halo 2 Anniversary.

And then come launch day they’ll put up a news thingy saying something like: Preparing for orbital drop.

It was Halo 2 Anniversary that used a heavily modified version of Halo 4’s engine. Threy stripped it down and rebuilt some things, mimicing a lot of how Halo 2 classic worked (jump heights, etc).
Halo 5 has it’s own engine but there will no doubt be some things from the older engines they’ll pull across. Functions and things that are already working that wouldn’t make sense to re-write
