From Gold to Onyx: The key differences

Hi guys,

So below is the 7th episode of our tips series, in which I try to explain some of the key differences between a player at around gold level, and an average onyx player.

I really try to go as in depth as I possibly can without the video running into 20 minutes long. Please let me know if it is helpful - I really wanted to create a tips series for Halo which was different from the usual “practice your aim” type of stuff.

This is an excellent play-by-play… I’ve been playing with a guy that I know who is pretty new to Halo, or I should say he last played around the H2 days… this will be a great video to show him.

I’ll show him a lot of little helpful tricks in Custom games but of course, it’s hard to see some things without the “context” and seeing things working in an actual match.

And I mean, it’s that split-second decision-making and processing of info that can be so important, like how you saw that guy jump off of Catwalk as you were getting shot at… you cut off the angle of the relevant pursuer, and drop on the guy in basement that overextended and gave up his position… Great stuff.

Yeah I’ve also been in that situation many times trying to teach people who are new to Halo.

They first need to get the basics down of the guns and mechanics, then moving on I think videos like this should hopefully really help.

Feel free to get him to check out the previous six episodes, they tend to focus on different things and hopefully can be of use :slight_smile:

interesting. i only ever actually played arena when i just got back into halo during preseason and it ranked me gold. imo this was some basic stuff wonder where i would be ranked if i played again

just something im really not that concerned with tho

If you think that stuff is pretty basic then you’d probably be able to Reach higher…if you hardly ever play ranked though, the highest you’ll get just from the 10 placement games in diamond. So you might have found that those placement games you played ranked you quite low in gold but if you played more you would have no doubt gone up a few ranks.
