From a person who has played since Halo: CE..

I love this game. I for one have not been this addicted to or played as much matchmaking since halo 2. Sure it has made some changes and some people do not like it, but if they did not change the game then other people would be on the forums complaining. I feel like they did they best they could to appease a wide range of players. For what my opinion is worth (which is nothing I admit) this is one of the best halos yet.

My personal rank

  1. Halo CE
  2. Halo 4
  3. Halo 3
  4. Halo 2
  5. Halo Reach

Finally, someone who agrees with me about Halo 4 multiplayer. This is my favourite Halo game yet (I wasn’t around in the Halo CE days, this is the first Halo game that I’ve followed since the very first trailer)!

Why is Halo 2 so low? I never played it online, but my friends and I always have a blast on splitscreen. It’s better than Halo 4, in my opinion.

whenever you have a game with as many players as halo, people going to complain. i kinda laugh when i see a pop of well over 200k and people calling it dead. but to each their own. i agree with you h4 is great, i have my own gripes here and there like anyone else but if the game was made specifically for me no one else would play.

my list in order
H3
HR
H4
Hce
H2

Agree completely OP. I have a very similar thread going:

https://forums.halowaypoint.com/yaf_postst147578_Man-I-love-this-game---Thank-you-343i.aspx

hahah wow, the list goes as follows:

  1. Halo CE
  2. Halo 2
  3. Halo 4
4/5. tie halo 3 and reach
any opinions that have any halo game ahead of ce and 2 are just idiotic.

Realistically I really liked Halo 2, but it had to go somewhere on the list. As good as it was I still think I enjoyed 3 better and so far I am enjoying 4 more than 3. The only thing I didn’t like about 2 was the dual wielding, one of my favorite aspects of halo is the shoot/grenade/melee trinity and the dual wielding aspect of 2 hurt that.

I don’t understand how you can rank H1 first and H4 second. Those games are worlds apart in terms of skill and gameplay.

I have to admit, I was a dual wielding -Yoink- in Halo 2. Plasma rifle/pistol combo, anyone?

I would put Halo 2 at the top of my list, followed by Halo 4 and 3. I never got to really play system link CE, I just played it splitscreen with my friends. So screen watching and power weapon control were the defining factors of my CE experience. Reach definitely goes at the bottom.

Despite some gripes with certain weapon balances I’m enjoying the game alot my self. Hard to come on to the forums without seeing a run of the mill hate thread.

for me halo 2 is low on my list. but mostly because i hold campaign well above matchmaking so as a completionist trying to do halo 2 on legendary solo took a piece of my soul.

My ranks

  1. Halo CE
  2. Halo 4
  3. Halo 2
  4. Halo 3 ODST
  5. Halo Reach
  6. Halo 3

I would definitely rank halo 2 at the top. It was a buggy -Yoinked!- up mess of awesomeness that basically carried the whole “xbox Live” idea on it’s back. Not to mention it had a legendary dificulty that was actually legendary.

For Halo 2 legendary. Plasma pistol + head shot weapon = not too bad. Also memorise locations of jakel snipers.

who cares

I agree with OP.

This is the most fun I have had in Halo ever. Hell, I don’t even think it’s broken at all. I think it’s just neckbeards throwing tantrums.

Just for s***s and grins im going to revise my list now that I have thought about it.

Halo CE
Halo 4
Halo 2
Halo 3
Halo Reach

and as for…

If you or I put our egos aside and really think about it, you can place both games in the disc drive and they will both play relatively the same. To be quite honest in terms of use and power the pistol in CE is very similar to the DMR in 4. The only difference if the two games is graphics, and additional things in 4 like AA’s, which in all reality just add another layer of strategy and personal preference to the game. Everyone on these forums are here to complain, but one thing I have done to change my game is to start using or at least trying the things that “annoy” me and some have changed my mind.

Had to correct for my own rank:

1: Halo 1/cea/ce
2: Halo 2 xbox/pc
3: Halo 3
4: Halo Wars
5: Halo odst
6: Halo reach
7: Halo 4

And yes I have played every single halo, every port, I highly dislike halo 4 even if I’m playing it frequently to get mind numbing credits.

Halo 3 was the worst Xbox Live Halo game ever IMO.

Halo 2(beats Halo 4 because of map quality)
Halo 4 (beats Reach because of gameplay)
Halo Reach (beats halo 3 because of smooth framterate
Halo 3 (a sloppy poor excuse of a Halo game)

IMO Halo 2 was the only “solid” multiplayer game online. Even the exploits were at least fun and some of the exploits raised the skill gap over time. Button combos basically became something you had to learn rather than an exploit that few learn to better themselves. Not to mention that Halo 2 has fantastic multiplayer maps. Their will never be a game that can pull that off like Halo 2 did. We are lucky to get 2 symmetrical arena style maps per game now adays…

Halo 4 is as fun as any Halo game before it. My only gripe is Complex is just terrible. Move that garbage over to BTB or just remove it from the game. Aside from Complex most of the maps are at least ok. All the BTB maps save for Ragnarok are awesome. The main problem at the moment is lack of maps. We need more than essentially 3 maps per playlist. This trend of devs holding back maps at launch is becoming disgusting. I don’t care how many people side with the devs and act like the maps aren’t already created… They took how long to make Halo 4 (3+ years) and they only popped out 10 maps? That’s pretty pathetic if you ask me.

Reach had a buttery smooth netcode. That is essentially what makes it better than Halo 3. After the whole fact that the game was smooth things like bloom/armor lock/horrible maps starts to kick in and you realize how trash the game is. Specifically the maps… They were just awful. Bungie IMO purposely made a horrible game with Reach. Not necessarily purposely but they lost interest in a game they were no longer going to be making.

Halo 3 was all around a horrible horrible experience. The maps were only slightly better than Reach. Some of the DLC fixed it but to me launch maps were huge and horrible. The only good map in Halo 3 was Guardian and that map actually felt too small for Halo 3. It felt like it would have been better suited for Halo 2. INB4; The Pit. BTW The Pit IMO is the most over-rated map in Halo history. The map is built for campers to win and pushers to get punished. The only time you really have incentive to push is off the spawn for rockets. Halo 3 had a “bad BR” I’m not going to say it was broken because it technically was supposed to behave like it did. Projectile+Spread is such a laughable decision. I can’t see why anyone would think that’s a good idea. Oh and how about that choppy framerate? It was so bad it made every single game feel laggy. The framerate alone made Halo 3 the worst online Halo game.

BTW I’m not doing CE as it isn’t on XBL but it would probably land number 3 after Halo 4 if it was on XBL. I just can’t stand CEs jumping mechanics. Specifically trying to jump close to an edge. I also dislike health packs. CE surely still beats Reach because CE had good maps.
