From a HALO 2 Vet.

I’d just like to say to 343, thanks for Halo 4. I’m all up for the change. I think the franchise is heading in a good direction to keep Halo alive. People need to grow a pair and stop making such a big deal about how 343 ruined Halo, because they didn’t. The old Halo games are never coming back. I’m specifically talking about Halo 2 mostly since that game had SPECTACULAR multiplayer. I only suggest that Halo 4 could use just some minor tweaks with the playlists. Add SWAT of course, Double Team, Snipers, and most of all, Assault. I also think that Infinity Big Team Slayer should have an option to turn on/off “objective mode” since a lot of peoeple like to play Big Team objective games. Throw some more maps in the mix too, that’s what Halo is all about. It was a good idea making CTF and other objective games as playlists in my op. Also, instant spawn should be removed, but other those small flaws I can adapt to the game just fine. I enjoy it and love my LE. Funny thing is, after Halo 2 died and the new 360 came out, I never bought Halo 3 when it was released. I just never had the desire for a 360 until I started missing the old days of Halo 2, so I bought an Xbox 360 almost a year ago and “finally” caught up on Halo 3 and Reach. I wasn’t into Halo 3 like Halo 2. Reach didn’t really suit what I was use to in Halo 2 either, but I adapted to the game anyway because that’s what being a true gamer is all about. So to all the whinny brats, quit being stuck in the past and learn to adapt and enjoy the game.

nobody is saying 343 ruined Halo we all know Bungie did it with Reach… 343 just went with bungie’s flow

SWAT came out today and a Vet from Halo 2 that enjoys Halo 4?!!

I never knew people like you existed!!!

Agree with everyone you have said, oh and they added SWAT today, hours ago lol

I am just more disappointed by the lack of multiplayer maps, Forge World, and no fileshare day 1.

Other than that, I am completely loving this game! Oh and I forgot about BT objectives! I knew something was lacking in BTB!

Points to all the threads saying 343 ruined Halo

You were saying?

> nobody is saying 343 ruined Halo we all know Bungie did it with Reach… 343 just went with bungie’s flow

lol wut? Are you joking? There are tons of players who are saying 343 ruined Halo with Halo 4.

Said nit pickers are fools but let’s not go there. Let them keep thinking Reach was the better game (lol).

> nobody is saying 343 ruined Halo we all know Bungie did it with Reach… 343 just went with bungie’s flow

Pretty much this.

343 made the mistake of basing Halo 4 off Reach, instead of Halo 3 (which was the peak of Halo’s existence) and that’s where a lot of the flame comes from. Half the community wanted to go back to that peak. Half of it wants to go in a new direction, like Reach.

I don’t see any correlation between Reach and 4 with the exceptions of sprint and AA.

Halo 4 is nowhere near the same as Reach.

Having played from Halo 1 through every Halo except Halo Wars, I must agree.

The change up is a great idea. Maybe a few refinements (which 343 said they have great customization over the game including Title Updates) and it’ll be golden.

Halo 2 multiplayer was the greatest through. It was one of those games where the glitches made the game more competitive (X,B,X , B, X, R, etc.) like Super Smash Bros. Melee.

I loved it and will always have fond memories.

But great job 343, almost all my friends and I LOVE the game.

You say this as this was a fact accepted by every Halo player. Sorry to break it to you but there players who think Halo has been garbage since Halo 2 and on. I stopped you right there because you are not speaking for everyone here.

Not that i think Halo has been terrible since Halo 2 but keep in mind that not every player thinks Halo 3 was the pinnacle of the series.

I’m one of them as well. Oh the gold ol’ days of Halo 2…

I love Halo 2, and I disliked Halo 3 and absolutely detested Halo Reach. But I am thoroughly enjoying Halo 4. I feel like Halo has finally started to find it’s place in the next generation. I just hope it doesn’t lose it’s way on the next console like it did on the 360.

> I think the franchise is heading in a good direction to keep Halo alive.

Yeah because, you know, we didn’t have enough COD clones out there. We totally needed more.

No, we didn’t.

343 clearly didn’t take the time to understand what made Halo unique. It was an older style of shooter whose mechanics with power weapons and map control dated before the rise of Call of Duty and Battlefield. It was the very fact that Halo was not like COD, Battlefield, and all their clones* which kept Halo popular.

Marketing 101: If you’re trying to keep a product relevant, it has to: A) have something that makes it stand out from the pack, and B) be reinvented from time to time. Halo’s “hook” was that it WASN’T COD, that it was a solid sci-fi title with a wide variety of gameplay types and classic FPS style multiplayer.

343’s “reinvention” of the franchise isn’t a reinvention at all. Rather, it’s turned the franchise into every other “me too” FPS on the market, trying to ape Call of Duty’s popularity to grab a piece of the COD profit pie. They’ve gutted many classic modes, damaged the hell out of the few modes that remain, gutted Forge, and replaced Firefight with lackluster Spartan Ops.

Making the game feel like and play like everything else on the market is not “good” for the future of the franchise. Basic marketing says exactly the opposite because once everything plays the same, you lose the ability to capture and leverage a market.

With Unreal/Unreal Tournament and Quake pretty much dead, and now Halo 4 completely changing course, the era of power weapon/map control FPS games is pretty much over. The only shooter, albeit a third person shooter, on 360 that keeps that gameplay style is Gears of War - and it remains to be seen how the prequel turns out.

I think Halo 2 was the best Halo, but I also think H3 was the pinnacle of the series. Look at all the Halo communities during Halo 3 - ForgeHub, ReadyUpLive (born in H3), Facility B5D, Black Water Ops, etc. Halo 4 has none of that going for it yet. When a real, good, solid community pops up for H4, then I will consider it Halo.

Not to mention I played Halo 3 competitively, since H3 was undeniably the height of MLG’s involvement in the Halo series.

Oh god, another revisionist democrat…

The only reason Halo 3 was “the pinnacle of the franchise” was because it rode off of Halo 2’s success.

Halo 3 was a disappointment to alot of players, and it’s clear to see why. But before the game was released? All anybody was saying was “OMG MORE HALO!”. Halo 3 was the first game in the series where the following game was already expected to be a disappointment by such a large chunk of the community. And the reason? Halo 3 was really not good. And alot of players were disappointed enough to just stop playing it.

Bush had a better economy. Statistics for it are all over the place. Bush was better than Clinton ( assault weapon ban kinda killed the economy. Mainly because .1% Actualy owned a real one the ones he banned were just semi autos) You can find these fact in old news reports etc. but that’s a different story

Halo everything vet and I like reach and 4. 50k games of halo 2. Complainers are a minority as the will find the time to complain.

Halo cannot be unique as it was back in 07. Every mechanic that has been thought of is being implemented into FPS’s. Look at Black Ops 2 and tell me they didn’t steal stuff from other games. Hell, I’m watching the playthrough right now and they’ve already stolen the mechanic from Future Soldier that lets you edit your weapons at the beginning of a level. Halo was unique back then yes, but this is 2012 a new generation of gaming and no FPS can stay unique because everything has already been invented.
