Now people as you know…
The beautiful Halo 3 Frigate was broken in half. It looked like a massive box with bent wings on the side. Basically it was a floating hanger bay with not many corridors and a few hanging pieces and a cryo bay… Now don’t get me started with Chief’s X Halo 2 armor magically changing into some Reach looking armor…
How did the frigate magically turn into a totally different ship!?
I mean has anyone noticed? It looks nothing like the original one. Did that get a magical upgrade too? Seriously look at pictures, posters, trailers, and the game. The ‘NEW’ frigate looks like a thin rectangle as if it was the middle part of the ship and there was no massive box hanger, no twin engines and no massive wings on the side.
How did the Forward Unto Dawn get its special, magical, destroyed upgrades?
Basically saying the cover up story would be, “Cortana… Not only Changing Chiefs armor… Performed construction on a frigate that was in half, floating in space and changed the entire…”
Yeah its very thin now wingwise… And it is wwaaayyy bigger and longer than it used to be. Actually, no, it looks nothing like it did in Halo 3. Except for the bridge.
I think it was (correct me if I’m wrong) DeceptionCobra who said the hangar was backwards? now that is just messed up.
I will just never understand why they would not keep something as it is, but make things magically change to make out right Halo addicts go cross eyed and wonder… “How the… Do things magically transform?”
Seriously though all these little changes annoy me… It doesn’t feel right.

Artistic license. As technology gets better, design teams change and things like that, the way people interpret how a character or object looks will also change.
Otherwise the game would look almost exactly the same as it did in CE. You just have to look at Cortana to see how much she’s changed throughout the series.
Imagine if you’d never heard of Halo before and someone described a Spartan simply as a 7’-8’ tall genetically modified super soldier in green coloured armour, a black bodysuit, with a golden visor. If you had a room full of people, they’d probably draw different things. The same concept applies here. 343i have been extremely liberal with forcing the new designs down our throats.

Are you agreeing or disagreeing with their new designs. I can’t tell.
But if you are agreeing…
Speaking of Cortana, she only really changed A LOT from Halo CE to Halo 2. In halo 3 it was pretty much established “Ok, this is what she looks like”. But in Halo 4, she looks NOTHING like Cortana from Halo 3. Please don’t say “Things improve as time goes on”. Its one thing to improve on a characters look, but to redo her completely? Seriously, she doesn’t even look like Cortana. And I know there are plenty of people who defend the Halo 4 Cortana because shes “Smokin Hot”, but that’s not the point. The only thing kept from the previous games about her are the patterns on her breasts and everything else is TOTALLY DIFFERENT. That’s not improving, that’s redoing, and its making a lot of Halo fans mad. Not to mention she is so ridiculously vulnerable and shy in Halo 4. That. Is. Not. Cortana.
As for everything else, they look the same in every game, they just have more detail drawn into them. Here they just redid a lot of things and it just feels, not right as the OP said. You do not change things for the sake of adding your own twist to it, you keep it loyal to the franchise and the way its MEANT to be.

Rampancy’s final stage is where an AI can feel (whcih Cortana did in the end) so I think that’s why she looked diffrent. Also she can choose her avatar. Chief’s armor was changed by Cortana and the armor upgrades when in cryo due to nanotech. 4 years = a lot of upgrades. The FUD I have no clue how to answer that. Also the weapons and vechiled looking diffrent if no tech dudes were on board to upgrade them.
I understand the “artistic design” argument, but the Dawn in Halo 4 is completely changed in terms of design, ie different hanger, and is exceptionally larger than the Halo 3 Dawn.
Cortana’s changes make sense (if you like them or not), she’s constantly evolving and degrading too.
I don’t recall if Chief’s armor has the dents in it when he pops out of cryo, but upgrades and refits to that should have made it all shiny and new, not just changed the shape.
<derail>
speaking of ME3 Space magic - listening to the Librarian talk about how the Forerunners were attempting to store organics in digital form to ascend to immortality smacked of the Reapers for me.
ehh, when I compare it to the FuD in H3 that landed on the Ark, I think the new one is bigger, but I’m actually surprised they did as good of a job as they did of replicating it.
I think another thing may be the Dawn falling apart. When it first shows it, it has a massive debris field around it. The “wings” and other parts missing could have simply fallen off with the rest of the shredded remians.
> Now don’t get me started with Chief’s X Halo 2 armor magically changing into some Reach looking armor…
Come on this is not an issue - Chief’s armor has changed at least a little bit in every Chief centric Halo game since Halo CE, this is hardly a new blasphemy specifically associated with 343i.
Regarding the ship changing, it is stupid that it was changed however as graphics progressed this generation things have been redesigned and sometimes even phyiscally changed. Play Halo CEA and then keep swithcing the graphics back and forth from classic to 343’s very nice graphics and you’ll see quite a bit of artistic license regarding architecture and so on from 343 there as well.

Halo: CE had Chief in MJOLNIR Mk.V. Halo 2 and Halo 3 had Chief in MJOLNIR Mk.VI, so of course that change occurred. The only real change, however, was his gauntlets, so it wasn’t too bad. However, the armor in Halo 4 has undergone a significant overhaul. Now the explanation that Cortana modified it is fine, but the problems arise when you look at it canonically.
The Prologue is set before 2552, the year Chief disappears after leaving the Ark. In it, however, he is wearing the modified Mk.VI which would be impossible since at NO point prior to 2552, Mk.VI did not exist for mass use by Spartan-II personnel. More so, if Chief’s armor was modded by Cortana, why do all of the S-IIs have it? You can argue it is a retcon, but then why would 343i include the unmodified Mk.VI in multiplayer since multiplayer is now canon?
