I have a question to ask, who all agrees that friendly fire in grifball is a unnecessary gameplay feature especially since the gravity hammer emits shock waves that could kill your teammate thus they have the ability to kick you from the game and effecting your status. Who agrees?
Friendly Fire in Grifball is classic Halo. No one wants to see it go.
Friendly fire is the reason I hate grifball.
It doesn’t work with the gravity hammer and ground pound it’s so annoying as teammates straight up get in your way too much in the worst time possible
yeah its pretty dumb, especially cuz griffball is so chaotic, you can get booted for team killing on pure accident. like your rands just keep sliding under your feet
Eh its classic halo I’d be more hurt to see it to and I don’t even play grifball
Not that i don’t like grifball in fact its one game modes, in halo 5 its probably the worst but in 3 reach 4 its never a problem.
If FF was turned off for GB I would play it more often. But I don’t play now because of the FF and because there’s a MS and let’s not forget the Playlist hasn’t evolved or at least add in different types of GB, instead of playing the same old thing.
Grifball without friendly fire is a terrible game. We tried this in the past. For one thing, aiming and timing your hammer swings so you don’t take out your teammates at crucial moments is a critical element of skill. For another thing, it opens up doing things like having your whole team guard the goal and just constantly spamming the hammer with no penalty to your team. Friendly fire is absolutely necessary to have.

It only encourages subhumans to team kill.
Even though it’s “part of halo” I’d really like to see it disappear. It’s annoying going for the ball in the game opening sprint just to get hammered by your teammate behind you
I agree with this! To many times I have been kicked because my teammates get in the way and end up getting me a betrayal. Can we please just get rid of it already?
I kinda want it gone since I constantly get matched with -Yoinks!- who try to kill the friendly ball carrier or just straight up people who friendly kill. It’s worse in Reach though with “peace matches” and people spawn trapping teammates
Friendly fire in Grifball is literally the only reason I don’t play it in Halo 5. It does not work with the game’s movement mechanics. I’ve played fewer than 10 times and gotten booted from most of them because of unintentional team kills. I’d check and make sure my teammates are a safe distance away, swing, and get a betrayal. It’s annoying as hell especially since I wouldn’t always get the kill on the guy I was aiming for since I was so focused on trying not to betray my team. You also have to contend with the idiots who clearly want to betray you as soon as you spawn. I don’t get it really. Every other gametype has evolved quite well to match Halo 5’s “personality” but Grifball has not.
My suggestion, play Action Sack until you get Rift Ball. It’s way more chaotic than Grifball, does not have friendly fire, and there’s low gravity! I’m guessing you already know what it is though. I’d love to see it rise in popularity enough for it to become a permanent gametype in the social playlist.
It can be exploited.
No damage = you can push your teammates across the map without killing them.
Maybe nerf friendly fire to 60%?

I forgot about this, too. Being able to launch your teammates without consequence is also a problem with removing friendly fire. But most importantly, not betraying your teammates is part of the skill of the game.
I’d sooner see betrayal booting go before friendly fire, although teammates who do it on purpose are a problem. The way betrayal booting is implemented is pretty good. You have to do it a fair number of times before the option is even presented to your teammates, who can then decline to boot you. I only boot when it’s clear teammates are doing it just to be jerks, or if they keep trying to take the ball from me (and invariably fail to score with it).
I thnk the real issue is the betrayal booting mechanic active in Grifball. It never used to be, and that’s how it should be played. Part of Grifball is accidentally killing one another. Most hate the gametype because of this, and that’s fair. But if you took no FF damage, you could boost each other everywhere in game and that would be frustrating in its own regard. (although i would be interested in seeing a grifball-like gametype built like this just for fun)

At least make the button for “yes” a button that people aren’t likely to already to be pressing.
(Fewer accidental boots, and more chances to forgive)
You should have to hit both triggers or any short combo.
Rather than hitting what ever button as fast as possible to get the message off the screen.

Yes, I’m all for this.
