Free to play was a mistake

It’s easy to see 343 has not learned from their Req pack disaster. This current form of monetization is just as bad.

Halo Infinite going free to play was a mistake. I want unlocking cosmetics to actually be fun again.

Agreed. I saw like 5 visors behind a paywall, not included in the battle pass

I would agree that it heavily incentivizes the battlepass, and it’s a massive shame that there is so little to unlock for those who don’t choose to buy it. A free to play model could definately work but they need to find a balance between what should be paywalled and what shouldn’t. Currently there are something like four helmets you can unlock without buying the battlepass, and they’re at ludicrous pass levels to boot.

The monetization is bad enough that I’m just outright choosing not to buy the campaign until it gets better. I just can’t support 343 with monetization so predatory.

Only reason I’ll even be playing the campaign is because I got two free months of gamepass with Discord Nitro.

Originally I was planning on buying the campaign on Steam if I enjoyed it but now I don’t think 343 deserves a single cent.

These microtransactions are so scummy.

I hate to say it but I think the current system is actually WORSE than REQ packs. I really really hate to say it. Honestly I don’t even think REQ packs would have been tat bad if they didn’t have all that filler.

You’re right. With Halo 5 we at least got a functioning progression system at launch…

While I’m not a fan of FTP models in general, do try to remember there was a time where people played a game because they enjoyed the game. Those people can still that, with nothing by way of playable content or features being denied to them, for free. Making the “free track” appealing would take away a lot of the incentive to buy the seasonal pass.

What I feel the real issue is is that the current progression of the battle pass incentivizes further purchases by way of boosts, almost to the point of necessity. Even with this extremely long first season, the amount of challenge grinding to clear 100 w/o boosts is insane. Made all the more difficult by the challenges themselves being utterly counterintuitive to organic gameplay. Fortunately both of those gripes have been acknowledged and are to be tuned. The real question is how much they’ll be adjusted, and will 343i continue to tune it moving forward.

Edit: I also feel the premium shop needs a full rework for launch. Available packs and items should be increased and purchases should allow full use of the piecemeal items within the purchased package. An example is the current HCS armor “kits”. Needing to use the full kit without any changes or alterations is one thing, but not being able to use the color pallet (which I guarantee is the main reason people buy these packs) individually is a complete rip.
