One of my friends just emailed me to say that he’s heard that a free to free play Halo is coming to Xbox One - a lot sooner than you think.

Yes. As in a free to download / free to play version of multiplayer. Like planetside or warframe on PS4.

Nothing past the teaser and a few remarks by 343i have been made to confirm anything like that. Your friend is very most likely sharing false information.

There has been news of a First party Microsoft IP releasing a F2P game, but no news on WHAT the title is.
Very unlikely to be Halo, maybe something from LionHead, or the mysterious project from Black Tusks Studios.
The is no such thing as a free lunch.
Nothing is ever free and you’ll NEVER get a highly anticipated game to be provided FREE. Sure, we might get a few games free her and there but they might be just rebuilt 360 games that were easy to upgrade.
Halo Free, lol… What world are you people living in and what drugs do they sell? MicroSoft would NEVER give up the potential of $100M - $150M in sales on a single game.
On average most Halo games sell between 3M-6M copies, no one gives that kind of profit away. The games that are generally passed out free to play are designs that are new or different, that most wouldn’t generally pay to try.
I expect all the free games to be Kinect based to show off how much better it works before, as the Kinetic didn’t sell that many games before. If they can show people via FREE GAMES, it works, they’ll pay for releases after.

Off-topic, but Defiance was a colossal failure.
The game launched for like $70 and the pretentious Devs praised it as revolutionary. The game did not live up to say the least and flopped hard, to the point you can buy it for $5 now.
I don’t mean flopped like “OMG HAYLO IS DAD”. I mean legitimately flopped.
Unless a Halo MMO had a good story and gripping gameplay to ride on, I just see it suffering the same fate. And even so, they probably wouldn’t give it out for free, as MMO’s are a great money machine.
They are making a f2p (probably for xbox one) of a success series that is property of Microsoft.

No, if they was to remake Halo 2, they would not do a Free To Play, there’s zero money in that.
I mean come on, let’s look at a few Free to play games, Warframe, makes their money from the market, Star Trek Online makes their money from the market as well, Halo 2, isn’t a game with a market, an RTS game where you could buy single player units, or skins for units, that’d be a money maker.
But still, like I said in my last post:

And tho this news is Microsoft, and it may or may not be Halo related, I still would not hold my breath and say it’s Halo. Unless they say something related to Halo, like Master Chief, Halo, Forerunner, or something along those lines (Excluding weapons, and certain vehicles, do to some weapon/vehicle names aren’t limited to Halo, and are also names of real life vehicles and weapons), I really do not consider this Halo related news.
Now, if one of the microsoft related names thrown into the article is someone who currently works for 343i, then I’d start thinking that maybe it could be Halo.
But so far, NOTHING is sending up red flags to tell me that it’s Halo.

The fact it’s a AAA series of success, property of Microsoft, first party, that halo xbox one wasn’t announced as halo 5, and that bonnie ross, who announced halo xbox one at E3, talked at an event in september about the possibility of a free to play halo (http://www.geekwire.com/2013/microsoft-halo-leader-bonnie-ross-freetoplay/)
There are some clues it could be halo, still obviously I am not saying it is, or thinking it’s halo until 343 says something more, but we have to recognize that there are some info that make us think it could be halo.
EDIT: in the interview bonnie ross said halo 5 will be a free to play, then when asked if she was joking she (ironically i think) said “NOOOO, I’M NOT JOOOOKING…”, but then she said next halo on console won’t be a f2p, but 343 is open to the idea and she talked of the possibility of making a f2p.

Yes its free money wise, bit most free to play things have other ways of gaining investments which are often needed to actually enjoy playing and even if you dont use these services you will be grinding hours upon hours of gameplay to get the slightest chance of enjoyment.

There is going to be no, and I repeat no free to play halo game game since halo can really make a profit out of itself if it did due to the nature of the game. AAA games could mean more than just halo it could beGOW which I highly doubt that would be FtP. And developing a possible 3rd game (halo 5 and possible halowars 2) and then you’ve got the support of spartan assault its pretty much a bold NO to them making a FtP game.
