Free-to-play changes everything (for the worse)

With the revelation that multiplayer is F2P, this changes everything. $60 gets you the campaign only. Everything outside of that, nothing is owed to you the player.

Think about game modes like swat, oddball, infection, CTF etc. These classic modes can’t easily be monetized. It’s time prepare for the reality that some of these are gonna go. We’ll likely have another “big thing” like Warzone, and that will be the focus of Halo Infinite MP.

Think about traditional progression systems that unlock armor. If you paid for the MP, you would expect to be able to unlock them in game. But now, you are not owed anything. The entire progression system is likely monetized, and in order to sustain the F2P model, it will be heavily skewed towards microtransactions.

So before we celebrate Halo being open to all players, understand what it is exactly we’re getting into. This won’t be your grandfather’s Halo, and I’m not sure I’ll enjoy that. We’ll have to wait and see.

Well, as the expression goes: “free to play, pay to win.”

I’m hoping it won’t be that way, but considering that Infinite is going the route of a “live service” I’m incredibly worried, for a lot of the reasons you’ve mentioned here.
