Free running in Halo 4

So we all know that assassins creed is famous for its free running creativity, but what about Halo? I’ve seen some of the best Halo videos to date and I can say that the armor is quite strenuous on all Spartans except for John. Why not? How cool would it be to free run while accessing some pretty incredible elements in Halo 4? It’d be a revolutionary armor ability.

In the books and such they are able to move fluidly like that, but it’s never really worked into the games. I think it would be cool, sure. Not as great as AC, but maybe jumping and grabbing on ledges, sliding, stuff like that.

its just an aspect that wouldn’t work in halo. there really hasn’t been free running in halo and it would be pointless to have it in the next trilogy

I know. I quote on quote – nicknamed it Grappling. But the forum shot it down saying that the Master Chief’s not Spider man. I was like WTF??? btw I recall a Spartan in a Halo Wars video doing a complete flip over an elite to save another Spartan. Thats got Grappling written all over it!

hummmmmmmmmmm

No a game would need to be completely designed around that mechanic and that would be going even further away from the original halo gameplay than we already are.

xD

OT: I think grabbing onto (specific) ledges and (maybe) a slide move would work, but not full on free-running.

If they did put in that, it would become Crysis.

Intriguing idea, but it would be extremely challenging to work into an FPS. Besides, I’d rather them focus on resurrecting the series we know and love than going on some grand, ambitious undertakings.

BRINK had free running and it actually worked pretty well if it wasn’t for several other things it could have been a great game.

No thanks. I’m playing Halo. Halo’s controls won’t change. The ones we have right now are perfect. It’s too complicated to explain just how bad that’d be in Halo, and it’d ruin the experience.

Exactly. It would be extremely difficult to integrate and still maintain consistant high quality across the game’s entirety, especially into a game like Halo. I would rather they focus on balancing the sandbox, sound design, Campaign narrative, and basically everything else that makes Halo what it is instead of something completely alien to the franchise.

You mean basically Parkour like Mirror’s Edge or Brink? Nah, it would really mess up map design, and the animations would just get in the way of the run-and-gun style of the game.

omg BRINK… Mirror’s Edge was the best but no Halo is the best FPS ever it doesn’t need those crazy things that you come up with…

I don’t see it happening, although I still find it weird that a supersoldier cannot hold on to a ledge he just missed, falling towards its untimely death :frowning:

Your kinda of taking Halo away if you do that.

GREAT IDEA! 'cause we all know how brilliant free running was in other games like Brink.

I don’t think Brink-style freerunning is possible, since there isn’t really any room for it; you’d need to sacrifce another mechanic, and build the environments to support that ability.

Crysis 2 however, did a good job with that sort of thing. You automatically grab appropriate ledges and pull yourself up, you can slide, and you can even swim.

hmm a free running FPS coughs “Brink” coughs

Personally, I think it would complicate the game too much. One thing I’ve always loved about halo was its simplicity in matters such as physics and map movement. While a common feature in shooters today is the ability to fluently run, jump, prone, and vault over obstacles, Im glad to say that such features never made it into Halo.

other modern shooters use such things because they lack the agility of a spartan. Spartans can jump 2 times higher than a COD soldier can vault. They can also accurately strafe without needing to look down the scope and slow down.

As long as we can jump high and strafe, I see no real need for any of this in gameplay.
