When I first heared about Forge World in Reach I thought it was going to be huge like insainly. But when I got on it somewhere in my Halo section of my brain something didn’t feel right like almost a dissapointing feeling. Now though I have actually thought about letting the community know what I think. I think about a forge where there is no limit to building supplies no money limit on how much we have for buying and no boundry to the map. So basicly make it so what you see its where you can go.
Thank you for your time.
Again, the budgets serve a purpose. The current Reach budget is already pushing the 360’s pocessing power. Not to mention, we really don’t need much more to forge with. Most maps made are in an enclosed space that could have been done in Foundry. The forge budget if perfect for making 4v4 sized maps. While it would be nice to forge a carefully planned out BTB map, our tech is fairly far from allowing us to do so. Again, there would still be no need for the excessive size of forge world.
I do have to admit you are very right. But I dislike making small 4v4 maps I like making big maps where you can expand more of your fighting boundry where you have to take like 15 mins to get to the other base by tank. And other people don’t always like just making maps with only a limited amount of supplies so that for all of the hardcore forgers out there can have more detail and expand there projects. Also people do make halo art and with more room and supplies we could forge all of the Halo characters in one map. There is so much we could all make without having to remember that we have a limited supplies of doing so we could actually make a full sized frigiate with full size and actually more like it on the inside also. Make it so the community can have more for others to do and use and if other games can use free roam and do whatever they want on one disc im prety shure the Halo creaters are capable of it too.
Forgeworld is already 10 times the space sandbox had, so that’s definnitely big enough. And again, with the limitless budget/iteam thing, it cannot happen. It’s impossible. Forge in Reach was already pushing the boundries that the 360 could handle, unlimited iteams and/or budget would cause the xbox and the game to crash. Every notice that maps with alot of objects have framerate performance issues? That’s what we designers have to work around with what we already have. Adding more isn’t going to help us in this case, but just create more maps with performance issues which isn’t worth the problems it would bring.

You can already make BTB maps that are fully functional, and having to take a large amount of time to get from point A to point B (15 minutes on a tank?!) in a map is insane (and not in a good way). The point of BTB maps is to have a large enough battlefield for a lot of players and the equipment they are given, and it should take about maybe 45 seconds to get from one base to the next on a tank tops. Taking too long to get from one base to the next can feel tedious or even boring just because there is little action going on between the two players, and if they are killed and forced to return to their base at spawn that can be even worse. BTB are big maps, though not large enough to require an atlas to navigate.
Players can also make ships that act as maps in the inside if they are clever enough and smart on how they use what they are given and limited to using. It just takes time to make something of the caliber, and even then it may not be wise to do if the map is stressing on processing (if there is a ton of flashing parts it is safe to say there are too many parts being used).
But as far as making something with large amounts of detail and the like (space ships in space), we simply do not have access to that in Reach, and unless a Forge World is made with a space skybox (it could happen), we will have to deal with what we are given at present moment.
First of all if you didn’t look very well this is involved with halo 4 so with the whole sky box thing it would be capable and secondly its not impossible nothings impossible you just need time some people (my brother) have trouble thinking far beyond the box.

I apologize as I did not see the “4” when I clicked (I was probably looking at another thread symbol ). Anyhow, though nothing is impossible there still needs to be limitations set so as to provide guidelines for those who want to forge. I am sure we will get something above and beyond Forge World in Halo 4, though it will still be limited I believe.
OP, as others have quite effectively pointed out, “infinite” supplies and budget is literally impossible.
And being able to “go anywhere we can see” would be very impractical. A map that lives up to that promise is a map that just… ends. You’re walking down through a meadow and suddenly, it ends and there’s an endless expanse of black. And that doesn’t look cool. It looks unfinished and unprofessional.

This is the most naive and oblivious thing I have ever heard in my entire life. It’s also demonstrably false. And I hear it on this forum more than anywhere else.

Trials HD did it
Seriously though that game had no budget. You could place as much as you wanted provided there weren’t too many items on screen. And I once spent over an hour deleting the walls and never made it the end of the map. Not to mention it was a 2GB arcade game.
I’m not for a second saying it’s possible on Halo. But when trials evolutions hits in the next month or so, forge is going to get left in the dust.
