This is from personal experience.
I own LE and when i seen the maps where free i was dissapointed to say the least. But i play with my brother all the time and so i signed in on his profile to get the maps for him so we could play together. The maps where in his recent downloads so when he got home he just downloaded the maps for free by using download again. (this was about 30 min ago when they where no longer free)
After his download was done we tried to play them but he couldn’t and instead said that his maps where not validated and asked him to validate them by buying the map pass.
Either when i first “stole” the maps for him he was under the protection of my LE code.
Or
As soon as people sign out they will be greated with the same validation message.
