Before anyone jumps to conclusions and assumptions I’d like to preface this thread with: I love Halo 5, in my opinion it has done many things correctly by modernizing Halo to keep it relevant with current games to acquire new fans, yet staying close to its roots for the core fanbase. But it isn’t perfect.
I’ve been playing Halo since CE and have watched it grow. And one thing that bothers me is how FFA has turned into a hot mess. Now, it isn’t as bad as it was when it had 8 players per game, but I still feel that 6 players is too much.
I find issues with these things:
Spartans are a little too fast.
Motion Sensors are a little too small
Pistol is too OP.
There’s hardly any 1v1 encounters with people. If so, you better do it quickly before someone cleans you both up, or if you live, you’re basically gonna die anyway because someone runs in out of nowhere because your shields havent even recovered. You can still find yourself spawning and a grenade flies in before you can even do anything.
There’s been instances where 1 or 2 people quit, and that makes the game SO much better. I think that if it was lowered to 5 people, it would be a little bit more fun, and fair. It’s not fair for the game to rely on luck rather than skill to win. Thats too unpredictable, like many of the situations that arise from congested gameplay. Its to the point where many of the “tips” videos (for example) basically tell you to just pick people off, clean up kills, and hang back to win. Thats just lame, but its true. I frequently have the best accuracy and least assists in matches, but I still find myself losing to dudes that just come and kill us both. Thats not skill, thats just shotty. Think about how much more smooth the gameplay goes when you play team slayer. You dont have to worry about people coming around the corner, and you only have to focus on 4, rather than worry about some guy stealing your kill, or someone popping out of nowhere because your sensor didnt pick them up. I know that aint the best explanation but I hope you get the message.
Tl;dr lowering to 5 people and increasing sensor range can smooth out gameplay. Heck, even lowering player speed just a tad could make things more fun.
And idk, the Pistol is too OP for my taste. Maybe they could lower the firing rate a smidge, or decrease some of the aim assist. Its really annoying to basically be forced to use it since its the only viable option. I’m so sick of hearing the firing sound too lol. The BR is underwhelmed in FFA becuase although in a 1v1 with the pistol its great, but you can find yourself losing kills to someone picking it off with the pistol because bullet vs bullet, the Pistol is stronger. It also forces you to play your strafe different since you have to make sure all 3 rounds from the shot land as compared to just the 1 per shot from the Pistol. I feel like this is more of an issue in FFA. Nerfing the Pistol ever so slightly would fix this.
If the motion Sensor was back to its 25m like it was in the past, it would be great. You can’t detect people with the 18m fast enough because the Spartans run too quick. So recovering from a gunfight it awful. When you get killed you can notice it because you can see the one that killed you get destroyed through your deathcam while you wait to respawn.
I think that now that people understand the maps more, they can be traversed much more quickly, so player count becomes an issue again.
Sorry for the post being huge lol.
So yeah,
Larger Motion Sensor
Lowering player count to 5 perhaps, maybe, MAYBE even four.
Or, increasing spawn timer, or decreasing movement speed maybe like 10%
And the Magnum needing a nerf.
Those are my 2 cents. I’d love to hear what you all have to say.
