Can anyone give me a good reason why I cannot join a free for all with friends? At most a small fireteam of three player (would rather four but three would be more “balanced”)
I mean a good reason. Not the canned reasons “people will spam kills” which encompasses all other similar reasons for not allowing it. Not “just make a custom match” because not everyone has eight or more Halo friends to constantly make custom matches. Plus do challenges even work in custom matches? (another reason why I am getting sick of this kind of game design. You design FOMO into your game and make it harder to have fun by letting people play how they want. I digress.)
The game mode is not ranked. The challenge points do nothing but rank your battle pass up so you can unlock items that you PAID FOR. So what if in matchmaking that is NOT ranked a small group of friends might make it easier for them to kill each other. If you are playing by yourself, recognize this and steal the kills.
What about the group of friends that want to go into Free For All Slayer and kick the crap out of each other and other players and still earn XP thanks to the designed FOMO of the game?
You gave us all challenges for Free for All, what are we supposed to do with the limited time we have with my friends, tell them “hey I know we just got on so we can play a few games together and maximize our time, but hold up I need to play a bunch of Free for All by myself and we might not actually get to play together.”
If I remember correctly, Halo 3 had a rumble pit that was not ranked and that was some of the most fun I had…besides ranking up in Ranked Free For All.
Edit: I played a game last night for my challenges…is it only six players? If that is the case a squad of three would not be balanced if we are all so concerned about abuse. A squad of two or a full squad is what would work if again everyone is so worried about abuse.
I mean a good reason. Not the canned reasons “people will spam kills”
That and if you have a team of 3 vs the rest of the FFA players, people will abuse that.
An easy fix for this would be having a similar menu like in ranked where you can solo or duo queue. You could do solo, duo, triple etc. and then you would be playing against others with same amount of people in their team. It would still get abused tho.
I found this funny to read. I’m here not having spent a dollar (well, CHF here) besides the campaign and apparently I paid for the items I unlock there.
Joke aside, allowing FFA with multiple players will result in it being abused. Meaning squads will join and play together against other people.
There’s Custom Games for that.
Regarding progression stuff, that’s just a generic thing and not necessarily tied to a specific playlist.
However I am getting more canned responses of “it will be abused.” I laid that out in my original post. Who cares if it is abused? It is just a quick play match. If you want to play hardcore FFA, there should be a Ranked version.
Also as far as custom games go…again there are two points to make. One, not everyone has eight Halo friends to set up custom games like that. Two, this FOMO they designed into the game makes everyone NOT want to do custom matches because whatever they accomplish in custom matches will not go towards the battlepass or achievements or whatever else people will have fear of missing out on. So instead they keep doing matchmaking.
Also, you should be able to join with a squad of three…that keeps it balanced and keeps abuse down.
Then again…while we are at it…lets talk about the abuse. What exactly would be abused? A player with his friend would say “go ahead find me and kill me to get your Needler kills.” Big deal…again it goes back to those challenges are for a battlepass that people PAID MONEY for…
I don’t disagree having Ranked modes for pretty much every playlist (BTB Ranked would be fun, imagine this in eSports, the strategies one could create with a team of 12 - a dream!) but I doubt they’ll really make that since they already fear playlists dieing out with the Slayer only playlist.
But the people who do care are the ones that want to play FFA for fun. Seeing that they’ll get teamshot all of a sudden surely will make them mad eventually and quit playing the gamemode.
But I see what you’re getting at, your idea is to abuse this to boost challenges and achievements. Like we used to do in good old Halo 3.
Afaik Custom Games can be published? So you don’t necessarily need 8 friends.
But yes, not being able to complete challenges in Custom Games is what I dislike as well. At least The Coalition added that in for Gears 5 eventually, I hope 343 Industries will decide to do the same.
Are you a troll? This surely isn’t a serious question or complaint. If it’s genuine then the answer is obvious and you’ve stated several reasons why in your OP…those are the reasons whether you like it or not and it makes perfect sense and it’s totally reasonable to have it this way.
It makes no sense. They had Rumble Pit before and you were able to join FFA with a team. Almost no abuse was ever seen by myself or the friends I played with, so much so I cannot even come up with examples of what might have been happening.
So again…give me real reasons why FFA with a squad is so freaking verbotant.
I think one of the only fixes for this is to only allow a full lobby for FFA or just solo only, so that it won’t be abused or you and your friends teaming in an FFA
MCC has an option to queue up with a lobby of 8, and you all can fight each other and get XP for your time
My friend and I were disappointed to see this. We play a lot of of versus games against each other, including everything in MCC. We don’t team up, but I’m guessing too many people do.
Agreed. My friends never gang up on others and we use it to talk trash to each other. I have never came across anyone teaming up and abusing the Free for All in my history of gaming…those that have of course have ruined it for the rest of us that play properly.
I agree. I was trying to get into FFA with a few friends and was disappointed that we couldnt go in altogether. Obviously, we wouldn’t be teaming up since it defeats the purpose of a FFA. People like us (and im sure there’s more people like the OP & others), like to compete against our friends along with randoms online.
I can confirm if they allowed it - My friends and I would abuse it.
Same emblem, same colour scheme and we’d just gang up on one or two people and -Yoink!- them consistently.
