Hi guys, my brother and I just started the game and cannot figure out how to get into a free for all match against eachother; Or into any online game mode we can play against eachother in. Also, is the only game mode that shows the colors you made your armor Free For All? All other modes are red vs blue?

Every game mode outside FFA (and some special rotating playlists like Triple Team) are Red v. Blue. Also, you’re not able to match against each other on purpose outside of custom games. If this was allowed, boosting would be rampant. You can, however, play on the same team if you join a fireteam together.
Edit: Infection doesn’t use the Red v. Blue color scheme either, though the infected players are forced into a light green color.
In addition to the above info, Warzone Firefight is a playlist that does not force color your Spartan red or blue; in WZFF, your Spartan maintains your personal color scheme.

A few friends and I performed an experiment which may work for you. If you want to match in FFA online make sure you both are near the same skill level. Then set your search to expanded and search at the exact same time. My friends and I did this 3 times and it worked all three times. All six of us filled the lobby so it was like custom games except we actually could rank up/down.
