Anyone feel like the Free-For-All playlist in this game is being neglected? In past Halo games, Rumble Pit was my favorite playlist; I like being able to rock my custom colors and go it alone without having to depend on crappy teammates.
But in Halo 5… FFA just isn’t fun. It feels random, it’s filled with campers, and most games go to the timer before someone can hit 25 kills because no one can stay alive for more than 10 seconds on most maps.
There’s a few ways FFA can be improved:
1. Add a Social FFA playlist. Once I earn my rank for the season, it becomes really hard for me to find decent matches… also, there tends to be a lot of quitting in FFA, and with every player that quits, the game slows down. So a social FFA playlist with join-in-progress would be a big help; besides which, I play Halo for fun, and I’m not a fan of competitive playlists. I stopped caring about rank way back in Halo 3 when I realized that Rumble Pit was more fun than Lone Wolves.
2. Increase Motion Tracker range to 25m. In Free-For-All, you don’t have a team to watch your back, so it helps to keep your eyes on your motion tracker… except the range in Halo 5 is too short for FFA. When someone comes sprinting up behind you, by the time you’ve spotted them on your tracker they’ve already Spartan Charged you in the back. If nothing else, there should be increased tracker range in Social FFA.
3. Add more maps. I don’t think there are any community Forge maps in FFA…? I’d love to see some remakes of the classics from Halo 2, Halo 3, and Halo: Reach Rumble Pit playlists. Maps like Blackout, Cold Storage, Assembly, Foundry, Reflection, Countdown, and my personal favorite… Halo 3’s Guardian. I’d love to see the Community Cartographers recreate these maps for FFA.
4. Reduce respawn timer to 5 seconds. Why do I have to wait 8 seconds to get back up every time I die? It was 5 seconds in the last 3 Halo games. The 8 second timer slows down the game, especially on maps that are too big for 6-player FFA; namely Truth, Regret, and sometimes Torque.
