Free for all is terrible in Halo 5

Most of the time win the guy who has no skill, which I’m not saying I have it at all, but it’s annoying to see that it’s more luck based than skill. Maps are too small even for 6 players. Fathom, Tyrant and Empire are specially terrible for this game mode, though I love fathom for other game modes. You’ll hardly ever find a 1v1 that doesn’t end by someone else.

Every game i have played free for all has been utter chaos. Understanding the flow of the maps and spawn points really help with game play. Getting that “1 v 1” in free for all isn’t realistic to be honest

Yeah, I have to say that you’re describing the way FFA has always been, at least to me. It’s always all about the guy who hoards the power weapons and is lucky enough to get the benefit of one inadvertant assist after another, aka luck. I think luck plays more of a role in this game in general than most people’s egos would allow them to admit, but there you have it.

I’m not sure that I’d say any of these maps are too small for a six man game, but that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t love to try ten or twelve guys on Scavenger or Deadlock. In the mean time, don’t forget that you can set up a custom FFA match on any map you want and you can cap the number of players anywhere you want. The only thing you can’t do in customs is choose your players based on rank. Then again, I’m pretty sure 343 no longer does that either, at least not in social, so you’re really no worse off.

I was actually enjoying FFA before the ranking got changed up. I hit Onyx twice and the matches were always extremely close and tense. A Victory felt like an acomplishment. Now the ranks are all over the place and smurfs ruin any potential for fair matches. The only reason I have even considered playing H5 lately is to test the retuned weapons. Other then that I have had zero desire to touch it in weeks!!

The main reasons I never play FFA ^

Out of the 20 or so ffa games i’ve played in my halo ‘career’, I’ve come second in most of them with the most assists. Top guy always has least assists so it’s a complete fluke and no point in playing to win really.

Out of the 10 year, 10,000 or so FFA games I’ve played in my H3, HR, H4, H5, HMCC, COD and Destiny career the statistical distribution of Fluke v Skill has pointed out to me that positioning, kill stealing, power weapon control and talent are the real skill in FFA. Skill wins more often than you realise.

> kill stealing

so we’re partly in agreement then LMAO

Yes, luck plays a role in it to some extent. But skill does too. Onyx and Champ guys win frequently because they have a better understanding of how the game type flows. Running around spraying everyone you see with your AR won’t work. You have to try to stick to an area and control it, kill anyone that walks by your area. And of course, if you see two or more opponents shooting each other, try to swoop in and steal the kills. Let your opponents do most of the shield bursting and you’ll be rewarded with easy kills.

Of course, that’s easier said than done. I placed in Diamond 3, have worked my way up to Diamond 4 but it’s an incredibly slow/long grind. You barely gain any CSR sometimes even if you get 2nd or 3rd place. Definitely one of the more challenging playlists, if not the most challenging.
