Rumble Pit was my favorite playlist in previous Halo games, but in this game it is an incredibly broken and frustrating experience. Reducing the player count to 6 helped to reduce spawn-killing, but the Motion Tracker range is still way too short; 18 meters is just ridiculous. By the time a player appears on your radar, it’s already too late for you to react to them… and with people constantly sprinting around the map, plus long sight lines on maps like Torgue and Truth, you constantly have players either sneaking up on you (usually after you’ve already engaged another opponent), or otherwise shooting you in the back.
From Halo 3, all the way through Reach and Halo 4, my strategy has been to consult the Motion Tracker first; know where my opponents are, then choose the best way to approach a confrontation rather than blindly charging into battle.
But with Halo 5’s motion tracker only showing me players within an 18 meter radius, I can’t see when opponents spawn behind me, or if another player is sprinting towards me from the opposite direction before I go chasing after a target… and in Free-For-All, you have no teammates to watch your back.
In the Beta, the Motion Tracker range felt nice at 30 meters- it gave you plenty of warning and just enough precious seconds to respond when a sprinter came up behind you. It was perfect. Bring it back; we need more Motion Tracker Range- in all game modes, really- but in Free-For-All more than anywhere else.
While I agree they should have kept the motion tracker at 30m… FFA is perfect with max six players. FFA is easily my favorite playlist now. It feels just as competitive as H2/3 did back in the day playing lone wolves. But yes I also want to see some new maps with some diversity. Why do all maps essentially have to be some facility? Where is a map based off Sanghelios? Or Genesis? Past Halo games did a lot better making the maps different.
Learn how to live without it. It isn’t changing now. Everyone else has adjusted, and making it bigger at this point in the game would just throw everyone off much more.
And while it does sometimes annoy me too, it does help cut-back on camping quite a bit. I do appreciate that.

He has reached champ 1, I am going with his opinion.

Well I actually play the game and form my own opinion I don’t go off what others say.

Even if the the change makes camping less viable? Really, that’s the primary issue with the older motion tracker, at least now you need to think a bit more quickly if you’re in a corner with a shotgun.
The primary issue with the new one is that Spartan Charges are nearly impossible to anticipate, though, good audio systems will be able to pick up on people sprinting.
Either way, the radar shouldn’t be the primary means of locating a target, but it should be able to assist within reason. I feel like a bump to 20m wouldn’t break the competitive spirit too horribly, IMO.

Sound is a good tool as well. I picked up some good speakers for my gaming monitor and they have helped. Thinking of going to a headset.

Actually I am a run and gun type the highest I made it in ffa so far is oynx 1500 last season. Campers usually have a high k/d because that is what they play for.

I’d recommend it, the 7.1 Headsets in particular are excellent in shooters for the benefit of being able to determine positioning from audio. Especially with games that have audible movement noises.

You’re sort of forced into it with the FoV though. At any given point, you can’t see 5/6ths of the action (I admit that I pulled this number out of my -Yoink- and just assumed that Halo 5’s FoV was 60 like its more recent predecessors since I don’t think there’s an official number).

I didn’t say there was any problem with there being only 6 players… 8 players was too much for the size of Halo 5’s maps, and led to a lot of spawn-killing. But until motion tracker range is fixed, the game remains awkward and random.

Camping will always be viable. Radar range has nothing to do with it.
