Free, a word people on this forum throw around with complete abandon. Why on earth do I keep seeing people say “Oh look! Halo 5 is finished (finally) and we got it for free!” No, no you didn’t. You paid 60$ in the US or something else somewhere else. That’s not including the cash grabby microtransaction system that can cost you HUNDREDS of extra dollars. You ever wonder why the DLC is free? You ever wonder why all the cool new armor is locked behind the Legendary rarity? Well, microtransactions. That free DLC will keep you coming back for more, and the ridiculously slow REQ point acquisition in Arena will keep you in WARZONE where the power weapons are pay to use. It’s all one big money funnel that opens the door for even more microtransactions in Halo 6. For the record, I know the microtransactions are optional. I don’t care, because they might not be so optional in Halo 6.
File this as entry #329 in the “‘Free’ DLC” category.

So long as people ignore the obvious, I shall state the obvious. #captainobvious
i just play warzone because it’s more fun than arena lol. haven’t spent a cent either, other than the cost to buy the game obviously.
I would still prefer this than being sold DLC. This game is a full game with a seasons pass worth of extra post launch maps and I definitely got my money’s worth.
I paid the expected $60 for the game, and not a penny more, and I’m basically done with silvers and racking up golds.
Of course the DLC is free because of microtransactions, that’s all but plastered on the main menu.
If Microsoft ever tried to force microtransactions in Halo 6, then either peopple will riot and the backlash will cause Halo 6 to plummet, or people will oblidge and people start playing a pay to win game.

Just saying, man. These aren’t exactly fresh talking points.
You know what OP. I never bought REQ packs. I play both arena and warzone and have fun playing both. And remember If you are walking instead of taking a plane over a long distance to get to your destination because you find 10 dollars at ever 100 feet… you will not like the journey ( this is grinding for req points ), if you are walking the same path because you like the journey and you want to explore and see new things meet new people you will enjoy that journey ( this is playing for fun). You which path I took? The second one… I am all done with everything till rare and 25 percentage of ultra rare… and i never felt like grinding or being short on weapons at my disposal to play…
Ignore this it was a double post.

Ah yes, playing for fun… That didn’t work for me, I guess that means I don’t like the game. Halo 3 for president.
The requisition system in this game is perfect outside of the inability to sell multiple copies of the same req and the low drop rate of Phaetons. There is a real sense of progression and thusly achievement and the feeling gets better and better as you move from bronze to silver to gold packs. With the Ghosts of Meridian or Memories of Reach update the req packs got massively buffed with emblems not taking the permanent unlock slots and micro transactions are optional.
Compared to other games such as MMORPG’s the micro transactions aren’t in your face and aren’t a requirement to be competitive and are just there to supplement your gameplay for your own personal enjoyment. Its the most sensible agreement to do business between the players and the developers.
Also OP warzone is not pay to use or pay to win with power weapons and vehicles. With its match makings teams are made up of 12 randoms with different req progression but as a team their req inventory matches the enemy team.
E.g both team have 5 Phaeton req cards however the enemy blue team pulls out 2 of their available Phaetons while red doesn’t and blue wins. Red team players that are not close to their legendary’s or ultra rates will cry blue team payed to win and proceed to complain about 343 matchmaking system when in reality, it was just the red team being too stingy or scared to use their reqs.
Also OP in economics a company is allowed to market and make money off their product.

Okay, just watched the video and I am quite speechless because I never looked at REQs in this way. Yet its good that I never spent on these things…(read my previous comment for why?)

I’m sorry, but I get no sense of achievement from an RNG system. I felt like a boss when I unlocked EOD in Halo 3. Same with Mark VI in Halo 4. In Halo 5 it’s just an agonizing dice roll for the helmet or whatever that I want.
The Warzone cash funnel is psychological. It can feel like you’re completely outmatched when the other team spams banshees and your team won’t. This can cause spending.
Allow me to introduce you to my good friend Mobile Gaming. It’ll be happy to nickel and dime you.

Why are you saying we all spent hundreds of dollars buying microtransactions i have never spent a penny and i have everything in the game.

So according to you tunnel vision for a certain item like armour is more of an achievement than having close to or 100% unlock? That’s like saying you’re better off to have done 1 mission on legendary with a few skulls on than doing the MCC on legendary difficulty with no skulls both solo and co-op.
Halo 5 offers us more to use where nothing is left in the dark unlike Reach where certain items aren’t even bought. If we take Halo 4 you still even need to play quite a bit to get helmets like Tracker as part of the specialisations. Its better to want many instead of a single item, otherwise you’re just being picky and who knows you might like what you get from chance. Chance ensures that when we play we don’t see the same armour, visor and helmets each time. Variety does any game good.
If the you’re being outmatched its likely reqs were not the cause but rather the enemy had better strategy and reactions. Every req can be countered and its always your teams choice rather to use them or not. Its never a micro transaction problem but a player problem.
If losing causes spending then its good cause its supporting the game but it doesn’t change the problem of your team not spawning reqs. Its still gonna be there.
OP you have 62% win rate warzone something I would like to have. Maybe explaining how most of your wins played out how much money you spent.
Its actually hard to tell who spent, and how much but I will reveal that I bought two mythic picks following Ghosts of Meridian, and that I should ‘have’ bought more packs but I progressed nicely in the game otherwise and now get 6k req points back from each gold pack.
