Just curious.
What did we actually pay for at launch. All of the free DLC you see people talking about, is it in fact free, or is it simply late and therefore something we all paid for at launch. It’s confusing now as to what is what.

I’d rather have free, post-release DLC. While it’s true that it’s nice to have a “complete” game, doing DLC like this allows the developers to experiment and implement new concepts and ideas in-house, or from community feedback.

It’s not as bad as some people would have you believe, i agree.
Question though, late or free…? Which is free. If it’s late, then it isn’t free. We already paid for it. It is late DLC. I was curious as to what was free though. Has there been any free DLC.
60 dollars got you a skeleton Halo game with “free dlc”. Aka “Pay us 60 dollars and we need an extra year for development.”
We need to figure something out. At least in the paid DLC we got good maps.
This stream of updates releases content in a trickle and as a consequence none of them are satisfying for very long.
Ill say 343 did it right by launching post free DLC which is avaliable to everyone. The community isnt as big as it was so not seperating with DLC was a good move on their part
Halo 5 was really only missing game modes at launch. Map wise it was pretty on par with past games. I like the “free” updates because now ALL players have the same maps and we don’t have separate playlist for those who bought map packs as we had before. Also the monthly updates gave us something to look forward to. I think more would like the updates if all game modes where there at launch and we primarily got maps and cosmetic items in the updates.

How is free…?
We paid a year ago. It isn’t free. It’s late.
It’s also paid for twice over by the introduction of Req buyable packs. Nothing is free kid, it all comes from somewhere outta someone else pocket.

So tell me which Halo game Launched with 22 maps?
Halo 5 currently has 22 unique maps with a further 10 remix maps.
For comparison, 12 months post Launch;

I am asking what is free, and what is late. I wouldn’t know what the map count should have been, i am simply asking the question.

well all the DLC maps were free. I mean the only thing 5 lacked at launch were game modes. Which it currently has the second highest count in the series for. I guess you could say that some but not all of the game modes were late, maybe. Not really sure you could make the argument for anything else though, given the numbers.
If you consider it ‘late’ then all previous DLC was paying for what you already paid for. Like, beyond trying to do logistical gymnastics to try and feel shortchanged there’s not much point.
Just as purchasing DLC in the past made it worth Bungie/343 making DLC, the Req system makes it worth making new ‘free’ DLC. Given that 343 only promised DLC to a current date, its likely they’d have stopped making more if the Req system had failed.

•Btb=late
•forge=late
•patches to the game=late(and still in progress)
•could even argue some maps are late
•infection=late
•pretty much any game mode we’re accustomed to that has been added post launch=late
•firefight was never even intended to be in the game
•custom server browser is coming soon
•redundant reqs if you’re interested (I don’t care for them)
•maps are free and guarantees everyone gets to play them
Thanks for the answers.
So not every DLC is in fact late, and some is free/paid for via REQ’s. Nice to know when it’s listed, and you can see what is what.
Thanks.
