So a friend and I have been talking a bit lately about the possibilities in Halo 4 and most of the things we have seen or discussed have been negative traits for the series. Mainly was Frankie’s reasoning for why there will be no visible ranking system or why Frankie has been so quiet with details about the game that would interest us older veterans of Halo that don’t care for all the gimmicks being put into Halo 4. Here is an exact quote my friend sent me: " Everything hes promised has so far been crap. “BR IS BACK GAIZ” It blows. “COMPLETELY COMPETITIVE MAPS GAIZ” They don’t look that great so far. “NO RANKING SYSTEM BECAUSE I DONT LIKE GETTING DONGED ON GAIZ” The current rumored ranking system is still boostable, moron." So my question is, why do you guys wait for Frankie to speak about everything, and basically worship 343 and the ground they walk on? They are the ones who need to impress us not the other way around. Is it wrong to have an opinion and to admit to each other that 343 might not be doing the right thing? And before any one asks if I have played the game and what not, yes I played it at E3 so my thoughts actually have facts to back them up unlike most of the other people who just bash people for questioning 343.
Because the game still has a few months before launch.
You can’t reveal everything.
From what we hear, they’re still working on the ranking system. They have said the ranking system will be discussed in time. There are other things to talk about.
Just because you don’t agree with everything they do doesn’t mean that it isn’t the right thing to do. I suggest that you and your friend wait until Halo 4 comes out and we know all the details about the ranking system and such.
Also, many people (including myself) respect and trust 343i because, not only are they putting in 4 years of work into Halo 4, they are also Halo fans themselves. They are trying to do the best they can to make it so everyone can enjoy the game, there will still be a classic playlist.
Also, Frankie isn’t the deciding voice, Microsoft is. I’m sure they want to give 343i as much freedom as they can, but if Microsoft wants it to be enjoyable to more people then 343i has no choice but to comply.
I understand that they cannot show everything before launch and that things are still being tweaked, but they are not saying anything for us traditional players. It worries me on how the balancing will work out since there is no beta. Also why can they not say what they thinking on the ranking system and see how we react before they release the game and pull another Reach and it be too late to salvage anything.
Frankly, your negativity and that of many gamers is why I often hesitate to call myself one. If you have clear, concise, constructed arguments maybe we should pay attention. But when you engage in ad hominem attacks and hyperbole it’s immediately clear that it’s not worth any of our time to really listen.

This I do not understand. The guys at Blizzard that made Diablo 3 had worked for much longer on it and failed. As well as the guys working on Duke Nukem. Just because a game is in development for a long period of time does not mean they should earn someones respect. They need to prove it with actions, not words.

I have no problem is talking with you about certain topics and being civilized in my arguments. Bring up any topic to any issue for Halo 4 and I am sure we can discuss it like adults. But the community here only responds when they feel threatened by someone who might know something they don’t.

Evidence? I’m not trying to argue with you but most of the stuff you quoted from him were his opinions. Although i wonder where he heard that the new ranking system is boostable they’ve been pretty quiet about it.

There are classic playlists confirmed.
343i have assured us that they are doing a massive amount of internal testing, one of the reasons they don’t have a public beta.
Also, 343i has been doing a lot of polishing. The reason they aren’t doing a public beta, is because it would interupt their wanted polishing time.
Those tell you that 343i is really focusing on making sure everything is working and balanced as best it can be.
And 343i is including a great post-launch system called Cortana Web that constantly keeps track of feedback and statistics. This will tell developers if something is overpowered or underpowered, allowing them to act accordingly.
We’ll know about the ranking system soon enough. They have already said it isn’t 1-50 or Arena, something new. Frankie says they’re working on a skill-based system that understandably represents skill, but doesn’t encourage boosting as much as 1-50.
So far, they have said they are trying out a kind of hidden rank system. You can see your skill ranks, but its hidden from others. Its kind of like a compromise. Of course some people won’t like it, those that demand 1-50. And there is a Progression System too. Two systems. Ignore the progression if you want.

They are saying things for the traditional Halo players, there will be a classic playlist. Public Beta’s aren’t for balancing, they’re for network testing. 343i is running an closed Beta to work with both those problems. They also have this thing called the Cortana Web, which tracks more or less everything, and makes balancing much easier. They want to make sure the ranking system is finalized before releasing more information on it, I would expect info on the ranking system not too long after the game goes gold in a couple weeks. And about the invisible ranking system, Frankkie only said that that was an option they were exploring, not what will be in the final game.
Also, if you ask me, 343i has been proving it with actions. They do more than video games, 343i has released multiple Halo books and other things since they took over. Plus, they are essentially making a Halo movie with the web series Forward Unto Dawn.

Well for anniversary they showed off all the maps in the multiplayer bts. I suppose however, that in anniversary’s case it was alright since everyone knew the maps since they existed in previous games. They might do what bungie did and just show off a pics of every map along with a short description.

I’m fine with pics of every map. Not a full runaround of every map though.

What they’ve shown so far supports it.
They have overhauled the graphics, better quality than Reach and more colorful than Reach. They show that a great story coming, with the novels and supposedly massive campaign. Co-Op is promising, not only campaign, but the second eposidoc campaign.
Multiplayer is getting a breath of fresh air. But they show compassion for old fans too by keeping classic playlists to help bring them over.

So supposedly, the new ranking system will give you a rank, but it is only seen by you. This means you have a rank, just like the 1-50 system, but not visible to others. This doesn’t stop boosters in any way. People will still brag and talk about their ranks as they should be able to do. Instead of taking this away from the player or making it harder to compare with friends and rivals, why not rework the trueskill system to not give as much experience for playing in games with lower level people on your team, or disabling suicides in MM or causing a player to not be able to go down in rank if the player has quit out of so many games in a row. There are plenty of options, but none of the ones 343 has spoken of do anything to stop boosting. Furthermore, I would like to add that boosters are not as big a problem as players are made to believe. If you are a good player, you will beat them no matter what rank you are. If you are not, then you will lose no matter what. It shouldn’t matter if they boost or not.

I am talking strictly about multiplayer. The campaign and other things relating to that I have no problems with. But how is the multiplayer getting a breath of fresh air exactly? Seems like Reach 2.0 to me. I see people on here complaining about players wanting a Halo 2.5 or 3.5, so why do people want a Reach 2.0, the worst halo of all of them.
