Frank O'Connor confirmed to be at GDC!

Although it might not be to do with Halo 4, i hope it is, he will be there.

i love you.

Yeah sadly it has nothing to do with Halo 4.

Hey, its what i do…

It’s unlikely Halo 4 will appear at GDC. GDC is a industry conference, a place for professionals and new comers to congregate and share information and experiences. It’s a place to discuss games as an art, as a science, to discuss the future of gaming, and talk about how to break into the industry.

Now, the panel you linked to is a discussion about breaking into the industry, and will have nothing to do with Halo 4 (other than Frankie likely discussing his own experience with breaking into the industry and the founding of 343 Industries). I wouldn’t get your hopes up for a Halo 4 appearance.

I look forward to seeing him there.

Agreed.

so finding out that he’ll be there for this is a bad thing?

No, not at all.

It just strongly suggest (based on the statement describing his involvement) that he will not be presenting or advertising Halo 4 at that particular conference.

Thats what they want you to think

I think you are wrong and it is actually very likely. Games have been revealed and displayed at GDC in the past and just so happens to fall on the day that the embargo ends on press information. (which is real by the way) and lets not forget the spring showcase that starts tomorrow. I think anything revealed there will be among the discussion you mentioned. If we don’t hear anything new on Halo 4 by march 9th I will PayPal you $20. Care to make a wager? Or have I swayed your pessimism?

It depends on what you class as ‘revealed’.

I myself could understand if Frank talks about the Halo franchise, 343i history and future, Microsofts support and yes, Halo 4. However, I would not expect them to show a full length trailer, screenshot etc. of Halo 4 in the means of a conference directed at the gaming as an industry. The sort of information that would be revealed would have to be in context with the conference, e.g. Halo 4’s development stages/ it’s re-appearace as one of Microsoft’s major franchises/ the time and resources put into the game and what it intends to bring to the table.

I have nothing to say that anything else regarding Halo 4 and reveals could be shown elsewhere however.

I’m not saying it’s impossible for something to be revealed, but I’m saying that GDC is not a conference like E3 or the Tokyo Game Show. The ladder two are public conferences, while GDC is a professional tradeshow, more about the industry as a whole than individual titles.

I will decline that bet because, despite my apparent pessimism (I think of myself as a realist more than a pessimist, but anyway), I have a feeling that March will be the month Halo 4 comes to light.

This doesn’t mean anything…
Isn’t GDC a place where developers go discuss, ya’ know…developer things.

Yep. It’s an industry tradeshow, not a public one like E3.

Well that is something we can both agree on, and all argument aside, in the event that I’m wrong and there is nothing spectacular revealed. When would be the next event that is up to displaying halo 4 with anything significant? And I mean between now and E3 because it has been confirmed that we will not have to wait that long

Well, Frankie did say that we would get info before E3, but after GDC, PAX East is the only major tradeshow I can think of.

Wasn’t there a David Ellis tweet a while back saying that he was packing for GDC?

Day before E3 confirmed.
