Is there a possibility Microsoft might be ruining things for Halo Infinite a little bit, possibly with micro transactions. Frank O’Connor’s twitter bio currently says
“Basking in the amber glow of 343 industries, shaded by the benign munifecence of Microsoft doing Halo stuff. Mostly.”
I don’t think the “shaded by the benign munifecence of Microsoft” was always there. Franky is a clever guy the wording is that way for a reason.
Wouldn’t be surprised -Yoink!- is pulling the strings and possiblely forcing some shady micro transactions but I hope that’s not the case. It’s possible given that job description that caused a big fuss a few months back that asked for people with knowledge of player psychology and engagement and other bs. The last thing halo needs right now is a battlefront 2 level controversy.
I’m pretty sure -Yoink!- is trying something with microtransactions. I’m also pretty sure they had at least an impact on how MTs/lootboxes where handled in h5 and maybe they even forced that there was no splitscreen (which may lead to more selled copys and consoles). yes, 343i said that it was imposible due to technical limitations, but i think that was just an excuse (no company would admit that the publisher forced them to such things).
of course this is only speculation on my part and i have no proof, so don’t take this for a fact.
additional there are MTs (lootboxes) in gears and forza 7. also what i’ve seen in other forza games, the amount of cars you had to buy was pretty high and they were always cramed in your face so you would see what you are missing (shady tactics to sell stuff in a game).
also: halo wars definitiv edition was first tied to halo wars 2 ultimate edition, like CoD:MW was tied to Cod:infinite warfare. only difference: halo wars had no outcry about that i’m aware of.
so to me it looks like -Yoink!- is kind of going down a heavy focused MT route, although it might change with recent outcries about MTs and the success of god of war and spiderman on PS4 without shady MT tactics.
let’s hope frank o’conners twitter bio is a good sign, although we should never forget, that he defended h5s MTs/lootboxes after the battlefront 2 disaster. (then again: he can’t really admit that they are bad without taking them out)
I think that’s entirely possible. As a developer you obviously don’t want to make your fans mad and hurt reputation, but when your publisher who in the end controls you and your franchise, if they say you gotta have microtransactions you have two options: add them or quit. That’s the life of a big publisher owned studio.

Exactly what I’m worried about. Let’s just hope franky actually ment this in a good way, but I find it hard to.

Microsoft also might have ruined the campaign for Halo 5 my BIGGEEST fear was they tried to do it again for Infinite. Hence the change in the bio.
This thread is REALLY grasping here. I don’t know why you guys were so quick to jump to the MTX panic button but MS being at 343 could mean any number of things. Like, a lot of things actually. Just my two cents on this.

The reactions just shows how a lot of people expect the worst to happen. I really hope Infinite is a great halo game but I don’t want to get my hopes too high yet.
Well they’ve already said no real money loot boxes. So worst case scenario it’s a point system but you can buy points. I’m willing to bet there’s some kinda microtransactions in infinite but I’m not worried about it becoming a crazy pay to win or pay to progress period type thing like EA does. I’m sure Microsoft and 343 have enough sense to be careful with how they approach microtransactions especially after halo 5. Honestly though, remove cosmetics from req packs and I’d be fine with the req system.

Yeah but can you really blame people given what the industry is like right now

agreed did you know ea is under investigation for refusing to take lootboxes out of their fifa games
After speaking to one of the team members responsible for making changes for Infinite’s monetary system, I am more confident in their poise for now. He was genuinely a Halo fan to the core, and that’s more than what I could say for those 343 were intentionally hiring for the development of Halo 4 and 5. Maybe it’s sheer luck that Microsoft hired some developers that actually care for the product, but I am more modest from the intention their words carried.
He was also willing to tell me that Infinite has deviated from the concept of random lootboxes, as well as the excessive and unwanted armour sets and skins. Their new system they’ve implemented is something he seems to be confident in, and claimed that fans would “appreciate” what adjustments they’ve made to it; especially when compared to Halo 5’s REQ system.
If Halo 6 doesn’t use some sort of Overwatch type system, I’ll be surprised. It’s the one system that the majority of people seem to accept.
Would it shock me if Microsoft tried something else? No, but I would be a little surprised if they went the BF2 route. You’d think they (along with every other company) would of learned something from seeing the backlash that game got.
Unfortunately, I think we all know that microtransactions are here to stay in Halo in some form or faction

Exactly! And the name of “Amberglow” creates a happy versatile and expressive nature, with good business judgment and a fine sense of responsibility, which should enable you to establish congenial relationships in positions of trust where you are dealing with the public.

There’s no panic?? And I don’t see it as grasping as we’ve been out right lied to in Halo 4 & 5. And the way 4 and 5 panned our fans have every right to be wary.

No, they said no real money RNG loot boxes. I dunno if RNG is implied in the name loot box or not, but I just wanted to be clear.
99% sure there will be MTs, but this time, you’ll know exactly what you are getting for the $$ you spend.
