Anyone have info on what’s the target framerate for Basic Xbox One, Xbox One S, and Xbox One X? I know the upcoming Xbox Series X will be 120 fps, but what will be the target framerate of the older consoles?
Also, what resolution will each console use in multiplayer?
The older boxes will be limited to 60fps.
As for resolution… only a guess… but 1440p for the new consoles? I’m not sure the console or game engine are mature enough to go for 4K right off the bat. But I would be very happy to be wrong on this.
Maybe drop the Series S down to 1080p.
The older consoles will be 800-900p as per Halo 5.
So; Series X 120@1440p, Series S 120@1080p, XB1X 60@900p.
Maybe they’ll add some special “prioritise fps” option for older consoles which will decrease resolution but ensure a good framerate

I imagine they will drop the resolution as needed to hit 60fps.
The older consoles don’t have the CPU or GPU power to go above that.
And while the One X and One S have HDMI 2.0… I don’t think they are configured internally to output 120fps anyway.

Well, Halo Infinite seems to already be making innovations for consoles (this is the first time I’m hearing of a console game supporting 120 fps at all); maybe they’ll allow players to opt for lower graphics presets, similar to pc games— minimizing extra effects (like bloom and anti-aliasing) in favor of higher fps
I honestly think most limitations will be the televisions which people are running. I found out that a Samsung Q70 series which boasts 4k resolution doesn’t have the HDMI 2.1 inputs which carry the data from the Xbox to the TV. Kind of sucks but it is a newer TV and specifically made for gaming. Matched it with the Samsung Q70 series surround, I’m sure it’ll be more than adequate. My last Sony TV was 1080 and lasted 11 years (purchased new in 2009) so it was a sound investment. Most of the TV’s that have the HDMI 2.1 are the newest/latest/greatest which run $4k+.

Some of the new games, such as Dirt 5, seem to have such options; prioritise frame rate or resolution etc.
I think Halo Infinite will be locked though.
The Series X and S will go for 120fps… but the older consoles simply don’t have the GPU or (particularly) CPU grunt to go that far… even if 343 wanted to… so you’ll get similar to Halo 5’s multiplayer (800-900p at a solid 60fps).
The jump from 60 to 120fps won’t be the world changer that we got with 30 to 60fps… but will be nice for those who have the newer consoles.

HDMI 2.1 is ? only needed for 4K@120fps.
But HDMI 2.0 is ok for 4K@60fps and 1440p@120fps - which should cover Campaign and Multiplayer respectively (on the Series X and S).
I was looking at the Samsung G7 as I don’t really need 4K when I sit right in front of the monitor. Now that Infinite is delayed (and I wasn’t lucky enough to get hold of a release console) I can wait and see what pops up in the new year. The January CES should be interesting.

I was on some tech pages and looking stuff up. The newer series Xbox is HDMI 2.1 and capable of 8k which the newest TV’s are at.
Scroll all the way down and click on 'Tech Specs’Also if anyone does decide to upgrade their TV…the BEST deals are the weeks leading up to Super Bowl weekend. Not black friday, christmas, etc. I got my tv which was regular priced $3200 for $1200. I’m a blue collar worker so $4k+ on a television isn’t in my wheel house ATM. Maybe after I pay my truck off but by then im sure they’ll have some 16k stuff out LOL
edit: didn’t realize this was for the older gen consoles. Still I think my tv comments apply.

Yes, I’m pretty sure it won’t go beyond 60 fps on the older consoles - but I’m pretty sure it’ll be stable with the right compromises, and 60 isn’t a bad framerate by any stretch of the imagination.
