Its cause you have players from other continents from the continent that you live in.
Say Bob lives in the United States and so does Jim. And lets say James and Jack lives in Australia. If Bob plays with Jim, they’ll have no lag. If James plays with Jack, they’ll have no lag. But if Bob or Jim plays with Jack or James, they’ll have lag.
Get it? You just have to hope you dont get stuck with a player on another continent.

Maximum troll achieved!
Don’t post off-topic.
Halo 4 is known to have framerate issues in splitscreen, nothing can be done.
The framerate lag is because the Xbox has to render much more at once with multiple players looking around the map and it becomes too much for it to handle. It becomes especially noticeable on complex forge maps. Not much you can do about it in Halo 4, the graphics are pretty intense and draw on the Xbox’s resources really hard. If you want a smoother experience for splitscreen games you may want to play one of the first three Halo games instead.
Shatter is complete disaster on split screen. I cannot imagine how it passed tests before releasing (but hey, it was probably tested by the same people who approved DMR in it’s current state as a default weapon…).
I don’t know about forge maps (haven’t play them yet), but slowdowns are clearly noticeable on Complex and Harvest as well. It’s because of better graphic yes, but those framedrops wouldn’t as noticeable if maps where properly done (they’re not as noticeable on bigger and more complex maps). 343i could actually fix that by few tweaks and recompiling those maps. I really hope they will, because I play mostly on split screen and I paid for Crimson Map Pack for gods sake.

No really thats the cause of framerate lag. Not kidding.

Epic fail… problem is experienced with local play only. Single box. Not matchmaking. No network even connected.
Other maps also have those problems. I can’t understand why there is such a painful framerate issue in 4v4 on Complex.
Shatter however is complete mess.
Everyone who plays splitscreen deal with some amount of frame rate lag. I in paritcular, can’t even play splitscreen anymore because of the intensity of the lag. Complex, Shatter, Wreckage, and Harvest are the worst maps to play on when playing splitscreen.
Ok, you have been called out on trolling and still insist, so maybe you’re serious. Did you read the title? It is LOCAL. unplugged from the internet. The same happens with me.
That doesnt make him a troll, please understand what a troll is before calling someone as such.
Lag and FPS issues act similar and he probably just wanted to mention the lag issue as well, nothing wrong with it.
The framerate issue is well known and there has been innumerable amounts of topics on the issue.I’m sure 343 is hard at work with microsoft to come up with a firmware update that may help this issue. Its just inferior hardware in the 360 that is trying to run a game that its hardware simply cannot handle unless many things are cut from the game, namely rendering and detail over distance.

This is something that will not be fixed through a firmare update. The 360 is old. The NextBox is going to be coming out withing a year or two and should hopefully be able to handle this stuff better.
343i new about the framerate issues and decided that they didn’t care enough to fix it. So they shipped bad maps. This is because they decided that looks is much more important than performance. If some of these maps can have bad frame rate lag while just playing solo, then that is pathetic. Shatter, Wreakage and Harvest are the worst, along with Complex. I have even had a few issues on Solace and Adrift.
