Frame rate problems

Hello there everybody. Just wanted to see if anyone else is having major framerate drops after the October 11th update on PC as I haven’t gotten a match over 35 FPS since then. Previously I almost always managed to get 57-60 FPS. I am running all settings at minimum (except for simulation quality which is set to ultra as advised to me previously by support) and also have multiplayer high res textures uninstalled on steam. No matter what settings I toggle I can’t seem to get back to 60fps, I even tried reinstalling and file verification. I am running a pathetic GTX 970 that has had zero frame rate problems before the October playlist update even while other applications were running. I’ve already submitted a support ticket but I’m curious if anyone has any suggestions for my issue here. Thanks.

Suggestion: purchase a GPU that isn’t nearly a decade old, doesn’t even have to be ridiculously high spec

I can get this game to run stable (100+ frames) on an RX 6600, and you can nab those for as little as 240 bucks

I have the same problem. Also GTX 970

Then you will get pathetic frames.

Try lowering the resolution scale to the lowest.

Prior to the update I had 60fps every match even when the game was more unstable a year ago, this is a new issue that was introduced in the playlist update. I know I need a new graphics card but I am too poor to currently afford one.

I do appreciate the advice on resolution scale but even scaling it down to the absolute minimum did not change the frame rate sadly.

Overclocking and upgrades are your two only tickets to higher-end performance if 343 doesn’t optimize for older and lower-spec hardware.

If you’re serious about gaming or would like to upgrade in the future, I would start putting some money aside to build up towards buying a newer GPU, regardless of whatever happens next. Don’t go thinking you need to spend thousands of dollars-- there are great GPUs out there for as little as 250 that are brand new and highly performant, capable of playing most modern games.

But since that’s not an option at the moment, I would take a moment to review if overclocking could be done to boost your performance. It causes a card to draw more power, but if your rig can handle it, you should definitely look into pushing your GTX 970 to it’s limits in terms of performance. Doing that could buy you more frames.

I found a temporary solution for this issue.
Just downgrade to the recommended GPU Driver.
But I have heard that 343i had aware of the issue. I hope it will be fixed soon.

Good news everybody! After trying many different reinstallations of other graphics drivers (and testing overclock settings to no avail) I managed to get the game running at optimal 60 FPS across all maps with the NVIDIA driver version 516.94 WHQL !

Figured I’d let y’all know what fixed my problem in case anybody else is encountering this still. The game also seems to be running smoother than it did before the winter update so that’s also a plus! Thanks for the suggestions and help everybody, happy halo-ing to you all!

Even the latest 526.86 driver? Haven’t install infinite since I rebuilt my PC but so far everything runs a lot better with the latest drive. Only game I’m having issues with is A Plague Tale: Requiem, which keeps crashing to desktop after about 30 mins of gameplay.

@MAJ0R_FEEDER alternatively a Series S - which is great for portability - it nearly fits into your pocket for those weekends away.

@ItzTheDay 526.86 driver works a charm, i am back to my 165fps in most game modes running high to ultra, the previous driver was a big issue that they released a hotfix for, messed with the gpu hardware scheduling.

@BlitzGear02 and halo infinite looks like trash on the series s too.

I suppose it all depends on perspective and if you’re moving up or down with performance.

Im happy with my dogs dinner - cause it’s cheap and cheerful and I can shoot aliens.

Have you tried running my settings to what kind of frames you get?

If you have multithreading on then try turning it off for one game or two and see the difference

if I reduce the resolution scale I create a CPU bottleneck on my system, need to upgrade the CPU lol.

if I run with vsync off and gsync off and uncapped I am hitting 190fps but obviously my monitor is only 165hz, so it is wasted, and that is mostly high to ultra-settings, this game is not that bad to run compared with some games I own.

frame timing on this game’s engine is still an issue every so often.

I had the exact same issue with a GTX 970 and tried to sort it out with Halo Support to no avail. Installing this driver fixed the frame drops. Thanks @MAJ0R_FEEDER !

Now the question is why is this frame rate issue happening with newer drivers. Based on the game’s track record, I suspect the Infinite team responsible for this isn’t keeping up in some regard but I welcome any perspectives to the contrary.

Cheers Bro @MAJ0R_FEEDER had a 970 and had the same issues to, now running smooth at 60FPS with the driver update. Doing the Lord’s work man

Thank you @MAJ0R_FEEDER ! nvidia driver 516.94 fixed the framerate drop issue on my 980Ti as well. Latest drivers (526.86 and earlier) had my frame rate tanking to the teens. Now I am back to ~120fps at 1280x1024 on Medium settings.
