Okay, I don’t know if somebody noticed this, but I think I found a little detail about the “dark new threat”.
I found this by myself and I didn’t saw this mentioned by anyone before.
Watch the Making Halo 4: First Look Vidoc and skip to 1:26 and wait until Josh Homes says “… a threat that is…” now listen carefully, because in the background you can hear something screaming.
I think this is how the “dark new threat” is going to scream, what do you think?

If it is the flood, then it’s probably a new form, but I believe it’s the thing from the concept art trailer, like frenchfryjordan said in the second post.
EDIT: I compared it and it’s really very similiar. And the thing in the concept art trailer doesn’t look like flood, but it looks like some kind of forerunner, when you whatch it in slow-motion.

Maybe you are right, but there is a chance that the flood has improved and is stronger, faster and more intelligent and if so, this is could also mean that it is an enemy he has never faced before.
But I doubt it, because this would be very cheap, right?
EDIT: The Covenant is confirmed, too, but we shouldn’t care about them, because they are not our 1st problem. But still, I want to know what factions they have and if there are new species joining the Aliance.

My hope is we get to fly it when we team up with Bornstellar-Didact in Halo 5. 
Well they said a dark new threat so not flood and not convineant. But Forerunners are so post to be in the series but there might be a second enemy.

It would be even more hilarious if the Covenant Loyalists, the Covenant Separatists, and the humans had to work together in Halo 6 to finally defeat this threat.
