Let’s start with looking at classic Mjolnir Mk VI here and here. And then lets look at the Mk IV from The Package.
Let’s round this out with the Mk IV from Forward Unto Dawn.
Lay them all out side by side. I know its a live action real-life prop (good effort) but I can’t help but notice very very obviously that its just a dude in a suit, but what do you think? Is the Chief a little… er… rotund?
They’ll probably CGI the suit up and add some special effects for the actual footage.
The question is: why does he have Mark VI all the way back then.
OMG…you didn’t just call Chief FAT.
lol also, look at the other images of him, they look much slimmer
Also now that I know who worked on the prop I want to watch him and Tony Stark have a fistfight
> The question is: why does he have Mark VI all the way back then.
??? looks like Mark IV to me.
> The question is: why does he have Mark VI all the way back then.
artistic visual retcon. It is a mark IV but it needed to look less outdated by our visual standards.
Remember the Mark IVs from halo wars?
Chief is also a dude in a suit.

That’s right, there’s like 2 or 3 different drawings of the MK 4 suit. But my question to you guys is: Who’s to say there aren’t 2 different versions of the MK 4 suit, and the one we see in FUD is the one that he and his team wore, and the MK 4 from Halo Wars was everyone else’s?
The armor in Forwar Unto Dawn is Mk 4 (IV) -no shields just a liquid glass / gell layer and some intstant stem cell/ bio foam at suit puncters under some armor. I prefered Halo Wars marine uniforms and Spartan Mk 4 by far tho, but low budjet does as low budjet is.

as far as I know lore wise at that point in time there was only one manufacturer for the mjolnir and only one model per mark save for the black team variant but I could be mistaken, still, I do not see it as a problem. I wish 343 updated the look of the MKV in a similar fashion for the anniversary edition

Yeah, also lore wise, ONI are very secretive, so there might of been a side team that had proto types they was working on, and chief and his team got to test them.

Have you seen the dude who plays the chief? Definitely not fat.
FUD is an amazingly ambitious production, especially for a video game. Personally, if the Chief doesn’t look perfect, I think I can forgive 343. Plus, from what was seen in the FUD trailer, he looks pretty good in the final production.

doubtful
Visual retcon just makes more sense

It’s not a visual retcon, it’s just an artistic interpretation of Mk. IV, much like the Chief’s armor in CEA.

which is technically a retcon…

A retcon means it’s overwritting previous version. That’s not what happening. With CEA and FUD, 343 is altering the visual appearance for the sake of production, but not altering it in any canonical sense.
I’m just going to throw it out there as a guy who makes props. Getting a suit like that that can handle the wear and tear of the action that they are doing, and keeping it visually identical to artists previous renditions is near impossible.
I think they did a pretty good job with the budget they have…It’s no Iron Man suit, but it is pretty damn good looking while in action.

yes and altering the the previously established visuals of a piece of their fiction retroactively modifies the continuity and is therefore a retcon, if only in that specific production and no other media it is still a retcon within FUD.

The style of armour used in FuD, is the armour Chief wears in Halo Legend’s ‘The Package’ (aka Package Armour):

I believe they’re using this style more for artistic liberty reasons, not LORE reasons. There are many artistic variantions of the MKIV.
