They canonized the variation anyway. Its a MK IV sub-set, most likely replacing the original MK IV he received on Chi Ceti IV. A rushed-out upgrade by the Matierals Group built on expereince learned from the battle over their very home base I would think.

I just finished it and thought it was pretty good. I was kind of bored until the Covenant showed up and then it got awesome, more awesome once Chief showed up. His voice was a little weird but acceptable and I knew Downes wasn’t going to be doing the voice going in. Out of curiosity, what was up with Fred and Kelly? Maybe my eyes were playing tricks on me or something but they looked CGI.

They’re eyes looked really weird though. Contact lenses?

I dont think so. It was probably the lighting. Then again Spartans do have augmented eyes.

Chief also used that variant of Mark IV during Operation: WARM BLANKET in The Package from Halo Legends.
