The 3 parts that have come out, they happen before halo reach right?
You bet. This is closer to first contact with the Covies.
All of Forward Unto Dawn (except the parts with Chief and Cortana in the ship in space) occur in 2526, which is about 25-ish years before the events of Halo: Reach.
It’s basically toward the start of the war when the Covenant are just being discovered as a threat.
The year in Forward Unto Dawn, I believe, is 2526.
Halo: Reach is set in the year 2552.
They happen waaaaay before reach, back when nearly nobody knew about the Covenant, but after the first battle of Harvest, since that was first contact. Don’t know the exact year in which FUD takes place.
EDIT: Damn, triple ninja’d
I thought this was happening in between halo 3 and 4 until I saw the chief in the preview for part 4, which wouldn’t have made sense. Is it just gonna be a progression of events prior to any of the games made or will they make clips of during the years the games take place?
I always had this perception that Reach happened way before the original trilogy, but it’s all in the same year.
> The 3 parts that have come out, they happen before halo reach right?
It occurred during at the start of the Human-Covenant war, whereas Halo: Reach occurred near the end of the war where the Covenant has invaded most of the inner colonies.
The way that it connects to Halo 4 is through Lasky, he eventually becomes Commander on the Infinity. The first episode shows him listening to Cortana’s distress beacon and he realizes that he found Chief. The Chief and the Covenant are basically the only reason he didn’t leave CAMS. The series actually takes place in 2526 (you see the dates on news articles that Chyler is reading).

The point is that it’s a flashback. In the beginning of Episode 1, you see Commander Lasky (to be introduced in Halo 4) on the UNSC Infinity in 2557, discovering Cortana’s distress signal.
When Commander Lasky hears Cortana mention “117”, he realizes that the Chief is actually alive after all these years, which triggers flashback memories of when he was just a young Cadet at Corbulo Academy, back in 2526. The Covenant were a new, unknown force, and the (younger) Chief saved Lasky and his squad during the invasion, and inspired him to pursue a career as a true soldier.
THAT’S what the series is about.

huh?

Well I think it’s leading up through Lasky’s story, and how it ties in with Chief’s story. The events of FUD are occurring around the time of Halo Wars, I believe. Lasky does play a part in Halo 4, though. I don’t think this will emphasize the Chief’s role as much as Lasky’s, though.

Actually, The Pillar of Autumn arrived at Halo when it fleed from Reach, so you’re right, which anyone who read the books knows.
That’s what I originally thought at first when I saw cortana’s distress signals in the beginning of part 1 and the old guy, then it suddenly flashes to a young guy. I thought both of them was lasky until one of my friends said the old guy was one of the commanders of lasky or something and this series was happenign before halo 3 and 4.

A few more questions.
-
Did they ever mention lasky in any of the halo games besides halo 4?
-
In halo 4, is the infinity going to requiem to find the chief or what? At the beginning, the dude making the speech said that the infinity was constructed for human exploration.
-
Anyone know if the hood guy will return? I don’t remember him being in halo 1 and 2, but in halo 3 and the books, he seemed to be 1 of the most improtant characters.

What’s there not to understand? Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn occurred at the start of war, however halo: Reach actually occurred near the end of the war along with other games in the original Halo trilogy (along with Halo 3: ODST).

Just realized.
Chief is 46 already…
Probably a year or so younger considering cryosleep slows everything down to a halt.
edit - nvm someone beat me to it

Yup. It also makes him no more than about 15 years old when he appears at Corbulo in Forward Unto Dawn.
