Forums Closing Down, Farewell Everyone

Goodbye, my friends.

I’m another old skool guy that’s been coming to the forums since Halo 2 and it sucks because I feel that all the most reliable information is found here. Yeah it may not be first but you know it’s always accurate which is more important to me. Also I love some of he theories people would post about lore and yes there are some great YouTube channels out there but just something about reading someone’s post makes it feel more enjoyable. Gonna miss this place and that is weird to say being I’m in my early 40s now. Well like someone else said hope to match up in a game. Feel free to add me gt Yo Erk

Reddit seems best, and theres lowsodiumhalo there also.
But theres nothing like a good traditional forum.
Current forum was never finished, or linked to the old one.
Wonder what that would have been like.
Im not installing the waypoint app. I try to avoid discord too, theres enough bloat on my phone, but i sometimes use discord for the financial groups, stock market groups, ironically not for gaming lol

Exactly. It’s a bold faced move to remove the chatter that’s isn’t optimal to hear. I’ll admit people like to hate, believe me I’m one that loves a good dragging. But shutting down the entire forum just leaves a nasty taste in my mouth. Back when Halo 5 was the newest I chalked it up to incompetence. But after seeing how they prioritized the store, lied about features, and now silencing the general crowd, I feel it’s malevolent.

Is there a Halo fan forum that everyone could migrate to perhaps?

I briefly looked at hosting a discourse account and asking if we could copy the main data across.

But it’s not cheap.

10 days until read-only status kicks in

I’ve had some insightful an spirited debates on Quora… We could all vye to update halopedia as the mods delete most of our add ons the nerve… But blasting our opinions on Quora might find half of us relearning grammar an the division between biased facts an opinions… It’s been fun. Giving advice sure can give a sense of community and value…

Well, this is pretty sad. Seems like 343 has decided that the denizens of reddit and discord alone will be informing their decisions for the future of this franchise from now on, and anyone who automatically had a waypoint forum account by dint of having a required microsoft account to play the game in the first place wont have a voice in how halo pans out in the future. I think its a mistake for such a large company, which easily has the resources to run their own forums, to outsource their feedback harvesting mechanisms to social media platforms which are exquisitely architected to generate maximal conflict between people [which they call “user engagement”, which is what makes them money] and expect anything except flamewars and other mind numbing dreck in their “player feedback” from now on. They could have instead chosen to keep the Waypoint forums active in an albeit reduced, but also a more focused and probably more useful to their feedback goals capacity. Personally i wont ever be using discord due to their frankly insidious data collection and resale regime [seriously look it up], and reddit is just an aggressive hellhole of a website where authentic conversation and dialogue goes to die, so i wont be signing up for that either. So i guess this is a pre-halo 2 [remember UC and Black Arrow haha] xbox live OG account signing off from community engagement for the last time :(. Adios.

This will be my last reply on this forum then:

I can’t add much more that hasn’t already been added by other commenters. It’s a shame that this forum is getting shut down, even though we’ve contributed tons of useful infos, bug fixes and possible changes for the better. But it’s a classic 343 move again: take something good and burn it to the ground.

I wish you - the community members - all the best for the future.

Take care, folks!

I think I might try and make a Halo forum. We need a forum style place of discussion and whilst Reddit is all good and that, it’s edging closer to social media style discussions on the daily and it’s just not the same.

Watch this space I suppose?

I couldn’t even figure out how to post a new topic in these forums, only reply to other posts, so i don’t use it very often.

But, two things i always wanted post:

  1. in the halo waypoint app, if i go to companion and click on service record, the app crashes. Every time. Is this happening to everyone?

  2. has anyone else noticed, and does it bother you, that in the customize section of Halo Infinite, the emblems and weapon charms face backwards. They should face forward, to the front of the weapon, and to the left on your armor.

I had the same issue with the app.

I logged a bug - they told me to reinstall it. That didn’t work either.

But it somehow works now.

I think someone stealth fixed a bug. I was getting crashes every time i went into the service record for a couple days after S3 launched, and yesterday it inexplicably worked without me doing anything to the app lol

I’m sad that discord is gonna be a mess, but I’m glad you’re having a bad time

Discord is nothing like the forms here on Waypoint. It’s going to be sad because we’re so close to the final day on here. ;(
