I just want to write my piece before the eventual closure of the forums, I’ll keep it brief
Halo Waypoint’s forums have a history of insightful discussion, more-so than on any other platform
Those who recall being on various forums back in the day will know that more effort goes into a forum post than a tweet or discord message, you’re writing with the knowledge that you’ve been assigned a spot in the thread & that your post should detail your stance,
With Discord and other websites you’re contesting against thousands of other people in a live shouting format, sometimes confined to a character limit, there is no formality in those constructs and the original message is usually lost
This is a real shame, it’s not like there is no community here, once again back-end stats dictate 343’s decision to prop up something else, and I’m pretty bored of it.
I don’t really seeing myself transitioning to another platforms that don’t have the same expression-factor that forums do, also the Halo Discord is well documented as a place with a whole lot of problems.
…It didn’t help the forums when the redesign negatively impacted the experience people were once fond with
Forums were made because chat sites existed and people wanted a format that would allow for preservation of the conversation and the ability to create points to talk about. Modern social media isn’t any form of replacement for the format that an official forum provides. Everything is just bite sized bits of thoughts and opinions thrown out into the ether hoping to be snagged by someone’s eye. Even when that happens you have to sift through mountains of posts just to try and track down a conversation. Reddit will be the last remaining semblance of this format, but Reddit is Reddit and not everyone there is there for the good of Halo.
This very much feels like “don’t call us, we’ll call you.”
This is just another entry to the list of bad decisions made by 343. They must get some morbid satisfaction out of doing the opposite of what Halo fans want.
They probably got more valuable information in other places and didn’t see the point to keeping these forums open. A waste of space and a waste of time and money more or less, and since the games not getting the support it needs and people aren’t frequenting here they decided to cut the fat is my guess.
Thankfully though there are alternatives that you can go too. So if anyone goes to them I guess I’ll see you there.
When 343I announced halo was coming to tik tok it was heavily mocked.
Also I realised I spent way too kuch time on social media that I deleted all except one.
Also these forums don’t have an algorithm trying to force me to watch and see things that I have 0 interest in. I dont know why 343 dont just open their own website and just read the players feedback.
343I have been scratching their heads at halo wondering why is doing soo bad and it’s literally because they don’t respond to their own player feedback. I dont take socials as seriously as the forums halo is already on its last legs and 343I are going to fast track it’s demise.
It’s pretty obvious when they shut down the one place that they had been directing us regular players to go to provide feedback.
It’s also been pretty obvious for a while that they didn’t actually care about our feedback. When over 90% of the general community wants player collision back on and they write it off as, “The feedback is mixed,” it’s already clear that the only feedback they care about from us regular players is feedback that is already in agreement with what they want to do anyway.
It also seems pretty ridiculous that Reddit is the only place they regularly respond to non-pros/streamers and Sketch doesn’t even include Reddit as one of the places to go in the future.
I think he is saying that he doesn’t feel heard and hasn’t for a long time. I see no blame being laid at pros’ feet, not sure where you got that idea from.
Anyone paying half attention can see that the pros don’t feel like they are being heard either, but they certainly see more interaction from 343 than the rest of us.
It took a whole year, but I actually eventually found these forums easier to use than the old ones except when you’re trying to write a post with multiple quotes.
Waypoint going down is going to have a tangible negative effect on Halo discussion imo.
The chats here aren’t necessarily more or less logical than chats on reddit, but reddit has substantially more troll responses and meme posts to compete with. Fit example, something like Waypoints legendary sprint debate will never occur on another platform.
Regular players only come here for feedback? I figured a regular player would have other forms of community media connected to this game, especially Discord. There is a whole other forum there for in the official Halo server as well, which btw, they literally say in their announcement.
I recall they answer everyone, I hear them mostly on Twitter for news as well. I don’t know where you get your sources from, but its definitely a negative location.
