When someone’s only goal set to get to the next Forum Rank is “post more”, they’re going to post more. Especially when you put incentivization in there with the ability to have a sig, people are going to make a bunch of stupid posts in as many threads as possible so that they can get to that next level. It encourages -Yoink- conversation. That’s why only 2 of the several prefixes and/or titles on BNet have to do with post count.
They really need an overhaul. Basing them more on thanks, or lack of bans, or account age, or some other criterion would make a lot more sense. Don’t do away with post count, just make it WAY less prevalent than it is now because, at the moment, it’s a laughable system.

I think this system is a lot more legitimate and, er, fun? Yeah, fun. That’s the word. Gaining a rank means something now.
I think the signature should be allowed for all members to express themselves regardless of post count.
I personally spend a lot of time on the forum reading and just because I dont post much it penalizes me for not doing so.
Unfortunately 343i thinks if someone has an opinion regardless of what is said that they are rewarded for it.

Yeah no, you get people who like having
s
i
g
n
a
t
u
r
e
s
l
i
k
e
t
h
i
s
Or the rare spambots post links to sites that are ageist the rules of the forums.
So instead of having a 100000000000+ user accounts to go through and check sigs for any that are not following the rules, you only have under 100 members to sort through.

I still believe 6,001 is way too high, something like 2,001 heck, even 1,001 would be good.
I don’t have any inside knowledge here, but I get the impression that the system’s mostly just there to be there. In any case, I think we tend to have a good enough signal-to-noise ratio given the sheer size of this community, so it doesn’t seem like “post-boosting” is a major problem.
Keep in mind that I’m not a decision-maker when it comes to these kinds of things, so don’t take this post as a definitive answer. :\

Well then I’m suggesting one that is counter to that. One that actually matters. One that makes the site a little more interesting.

That quota is way to high as it is, even a limited signature would be better than nothing. Also we do have a Report post option if its spam or offensive.
